Return to Mysterious Island crashes on startup before it gets to the logo,
basically reolution changes and thats as far as it gets before crashing. The
interesting thing is that this dose not always happen, often it runs normally
as it has in pervious versions of wine.

Looks like StarForce protection (helper driver).
If you installed this demo on clean .wine then this is probably a dup of

Otherwise try to reinstall on clean .wine

If by clean you mean uninstall then reinstall wine, yep thats what I did. The
thing is that it dose not always crash on startup if it was the starforce bug
would it not be more consistent? Also the starforce bug is quite old and this
only started happening recently.

To try your program with clean WINE, or to be more precisely, with clean WINE
prefix, run:

mv ~/.wine{,.backup}
wineprefixcreate

Then reinstall your program.

Ok so I have added to more wine logs after reinstalling the app on a clean
.wine. I managed to get the error again after running the app a few times and
also after a few more times a got a whole new error.

On further inspection I found that the error is not wine related but my whole
system is broken
