Normally, it works fine, but if at any point you try to switch workspaces ( Using Ubuntu 8.10 here ) during gameplay it will render the game permanently trapped in this state regardless of attempts to reboot.

A workaround is to replace GW.dat with a new one ( if you do not have a backup of gw.dat, delete it. The game client will auto download a new one )

--- Comment #8 from estumx@gmail.com 2009-10-01 11:59:37 --- I found a solution to this problem:
When you see the download window you have to hit alt+enter un your keyboard, this will set the game to fullscreen mode. By doing that you can play normally, however you won't be able to play in window mode again, if you want to play in window mode you have to do what killpotts said.
Yeah, i know my english sucks xD.

--- Comment #9 from Garrett garrett.plasky@gmail.com 2009-10-01 12:02:04 --- Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately for those of us running dual monitors or who otherwise do not desire to play in full screen mode due to the various known minimization/alt-tab bugs, this is not a solution.

Found The Fix @ http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_on_Wine
The following fixed the issue for me:
-Start wine regedit
-Create key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/wine/Direct3D", create string "UseGLSL", set value to "disabled".

--- Comment #16 from Emanuele emanuele.emalele@gmail.com 2012-09-09 08:09:51 CDT --- Hi,
I confirm the bug on Wine 1.5.12, AMD Catalyst 12.8, XOrg server 1.12.x.
Anyway I confirm that the problem is GLSL forced by default in new Wine version.
You can safely use Wine 1.5.3 to play Guild Wars by disabling GLSL in the registry: everything will be fine.
Maybe it could be a 'wise' idea to post a new bug dedicated to GLSL and AMD drivers?
Please think about it.
Thanks.

A workaround is to replace GW.dat with a new one ( if you do not have a backup of gw.dat, delete it. The game client will auto download a new one )
The Gw.dat does save the settings of the game (including the video settings) and with this:

I'm having the theory that the game switched on your actions the video settings (for example the resolution) and recovering/restarting doesn't logically work then. It would be interesting to know how the game reacts if the game would be started with such a Gw.dat on a native Windows.
Maybe this issue is even just a window manager issue for example by setting a strange resolution that would never be set on Windows.

--- Comment #19 from winetest@luukku.com --- This bug sounds abandoned to me. Last reply is basically 2012-09-09 08:09:51 CDT, later comment from sword doesnt really help solving this bug anyway.
Even the bug would be valid it's really hard to do anything with the info given.
