Summary: Unable to launch Universal Combat Product: Wine Version: 0.9.52. Platform: Other URL: http://www.worthdownloading.com/download.php?gid=490&id= 13639 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: wine@temporaryforwarding.com CC: wine@temporaryforwarding.com
Created an attachment (id=10017) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=10017) Error messages from wine
I downloaded and installed Universal Combat from the given url.
After I first launched the game it claimed that d3dx9_25.dll could not be found.
So I downloaded it from this url: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?d3dx9_25
I moved it to: ~/.wine/drive_c/Programme/3000AD/Universal Combat/
I launch the game with this command: cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Programme/3000AD/Universal\ Combat env WINEDEBUG=fixme-all WINEPREFIX="~/.wine" wine "C:\Programme\3000AD\Universal Combat\uc.exe"
The game has to be launched from the install directory because otherwise it claims the the config files can not be found.
After executing the command sometimes a black game window appears without changing and sometimes it does not.
But the error messages from wine are always the same and can be found in the attachment.
Can someone confirm this bug or present a fix?

Also in the new wine version 0.9.53 the game does not run.
It seems to me that some implementations to make the game run are missing.

1. copy the windows quartz.dll to windows/system32 2. run winecfg, change quartz to native under the libraries tab 3. run wine regsvr32 quartz.dll
Also, please don't change the originally reported wine version.

Thanks.
That was an advice to the right direction.
The games runs but shows some errors in a sequence. Obviously only the intro videos can not be played. But there is also a problem in the config screen. There are not all graphics shown.
Another strange fact is: After the game first run I removed the quartz.dll from windows and moved the quartz.dll from wine into the system32 directory of wine, the game still runs (with the same errors, unfortunately).

--- Comment #18 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2010-06-04 22:55:49 --- For me in wine-1.2-rc2-111-g9aa9a12, gives an error that it can't play it's video. After that, crashes. Running winetricks d3dx9 works around the crash (seems it's the new shader assembler crashing). After that, works fine.
For the video problem, I tried native quartz, but then it crashed on the videos instead of failing gracefully. Seems it also wants native devenum.
Adjusting component.

Hmm, can't be that instruction the culprit. You could try this patch instead. Now I'm downloading the game, I'll give it a run later. Thanks for the report BTW.

Still crashes. You only need d3dx9_36, btw. I'm attaching the new backtrace. --- Comment #23 from Matteo Bruni matteo.mystral@gmail.com 2010-06-06 09:55:02 --- (In reply to comment #22) I sent the patch to wine-patches. Now Universal Combat crashes after calling the assembler with a (still unsupported) ps_1_4 shader. Working around that, the game continues a bit further only to crash after a call to the stubbed D3DXLoadSurfaceFromFileInMemory function.

So missing TGA files support seems to be the culprit here. I believe Vincent sent some patches a few days ago, apparently they didn't get in though.
