Summary: Eve patch 36800 fails in charater creation section Product: Wine Version: 0.9.44. Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: wine-winelib AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: evanh@clear.net.nz
I found it crashes out at the avatar makeover confirmation. The following output is repeatedly spewing from Wine while the avatar screen is displaying:
fixme:d3d_draw:drawStridedFast >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_OUT_OF_MEMORY (0x505) from glDrawElements @ drawprim.c / 247
Then it stops when the "next" button is clicked. After which Eve vanishes.

--- Comment #1 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2007-09-14 09:07:13 --- Not major. Unless you tested your game on all the specified platforms, don't use "all".
What video card do you have with what amount of memory? If it's more then 64MB, then please set the "VideoMemorySize" registry key to the amount you have (see http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys).

--- Comment #3 from Evan Hillas evanh@clear.net.nz 2007-09-14 10:02:26 --- Thanks for the hints.
Ok, done all that. The new dump is now appears to be reporting 256MB - "fixme:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_GetAvailableTextureMem (0x133e70) : stub, simulating 256MB for now, returning 256MB left"
So far one crash then one success...

--- Comment #5 from Evan evanh@clear.net.nz 2007-09-14 10:53:00 --- Two successes and about fifteen failures. Not looking too good, particularly since the successes were both in the first few tries. :(

--- Comment #6 from Evan evanh@clear.net.nz 2007-09-14 10:59:13 --- This bug may have existed for a few Eve patches now. I figure no one has been creating new characters of late.

--- Comment #8 from Karsten Elfenbein kelfe@gmx.de 2007-09-14 11:26:18 --- afaik some ppl reported that some time ago but I could not verify it yet
could you check if selecting certain options in the creation process increases the chance of a crash?

--- Comment #9 from Evan evanh@clear.net.nz 2007-09-14 21:16:58 --- Looks like the variations in the dump is bogus. I'm still getting the occasional output spewing GL_OUT_OF_MEMORY.
As for proceedure, I'm doing the same thing every time. Even choosing the same choices. The only changes are the random preselections at the avatar screen.

--- Comment #11 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2007-09-14 21:41:48 --- Please upgrade to wine-0.9.45, remove ~/.wine directory and reinstall your game.
What video card do you have and what drivers (including version)?

--- Comment #12 from evanh evanh@clear.net.nz 2007-09-15 03:42:51 --- Cool, that worked.
Deleted all and compiled the new .45 sources, reinstalled Eve, created several new characters to the last step and one completely. Also tried adding the old cache and setting with no ill effects so I figure the new Wine build is the remedy and this bug is closed? :)
Thanks again, Evan.
