Summary: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Unhandled exception on startup unless virtual desktop is used Product: Wine Version: 1.1.43 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: austinenglish@gmail.com
The game will change your resolution, but won't start, and give an unhandled exception window (which you can't see, it's all black).
Running it in a virtual desktop, however, almost works. In a virtual desktop, you'll only see the blue screen until you click inside, at which point the splash screen appears. Seems fine after that (haven't tested too much).

--- Comment #1 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2010-04-18 20:14:05 --- Actually, playing with it a bit more, seems the problem is that the fullscreen window isn't taking focus. Once I run gta-vc.exe, the resolution is adjusted, and all I see is my terminal window. If I press enter/double click the mouse, however, the screen takes focus.
Pressing alt+tab gives the unhandled exception dialog.

--- Comment #2 from Jeff Zaroyko jeffz@jeffz.name 2010-04-18 20:28:21 --- This used to work with a nocd patch. Adding regression keyword. I don't have the install cds anymore, last time I tested was around 0.9.58.

I've tried with a nocd patch, same result. Just tested 1.0.1, doesn't work here.
I'll try compiling an older wine, hopefully it still does here...

--- Comment #4 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2010-04-18 20:46:13 --- Andrew pointed out on IRC that this may be a quartz bug, and behold, a native quartz.dll + regsvr32'ing it, works.
The problem is that the video's are displaying, and pressing enter/double clicking 'exits' the video, and lets the game start.

I can't find the dvd, so I'll assume it's fixed.
