[Bug 15759] New: CHL Network application fails to start with executable in Z:\ path

With 1.1.7, when attempting to start the application, a cryptic dialog box
displays with the message, "Failed to ensure dir exists: \desktop",
irrespective of the location of the executable in what would be the Z:\ Windows
drive. If moved to ~/.wine/drive_c (C:), the application is able to start,
although it requires Windows Media Player 9. No relevant terminal output was
noted.

Why the app is under Z:? Have you actually installed the application
under Wine?

Nope, this application was merely in my home folder, and it does not require
installation since it operates stand-alone.

Then it looks like an application bug, unless you can confirm that under
Windows it runs fine from Z: drive.

The app seems to start without issues with such a path on Windows, so it
doesn't seem to be an application bug in this case.

I'm curious, how have you managed to create a configuration with Z: drive
under Windows?

What exact commands are you using to start application on Wine and windows?
Only please don't tell me you double click on it.

With an XP installation running under QEMU, I did two trials. First, I mapped a
new virtual hard disk into the VM, formatted it to the NTFS file system, and
then mapped it to drive letter Z:. The second time, I mapped a Samba share of
the Linux host onto Z:. Both times, I ran the CHL executable from the command
prompt, and it started without issues. on Wine, I merely invoked the app with
WINEDEBUG=$HOME/chl wine CHL_Network_.exe with my working directory in my
user's desktop.

Should this be marked as abandoned? Almost 3 years without updates and the
program cannot be downloaded anymore from the original host nor from any other
sites I tried. Maybe if someone can provide a download link...
