Bug ID: 41351 Summary: Rollercoaster Tycoon 2: crashes in the middle of gameplay Product: Wine Version: 1.8-rc4 Hardware: x86 OS: Mac OS X Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: blocker Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: cscarlettsmith@gmail.com
Created attachment 55702 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=55702 This is the report provided by wine.
Game/wine will spontaneously crash. I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to coding jargon, sometimes it says the sound driver can't be located/launched. Other times it freezes wine all together.
I'm using mac osx 10.11.1, and wine 1.8-rc4

Can you update to Wine 1.8.4 or Wine 1.9.19? The version of Wine you have is rather old.

--- Comment #3 from Chux cscarlettsmith@gmail.com --- I'm sorry to be stupid, but I've downloaded the latest wine. I had to download XQuartz, to unpack it. I also uninstalled the old version of wine as I feared they might be competing/confusing each other. The trouble I'm having now is figuring out how to install and run the program with Wine Devel. I get through to the program install and but when I boot the program the it doesn't show on the screen.

Hi,
When you try to run the game do you get any terminal output?
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41351
--- Comment #5 from fjfrackiewicz@gmail.com --- Also, please change the severity back to "Normal" as the "Blocker" severity is usually used for something that affects Wine in its entirety rather than a single application.

--- Comment #7 from Chux cscarlettsmith@gmail.com --- Changed the severity back, sorry about that, and I've attached what terminal is saying to me.

Changed the severity back, sorry about that, and I've attached what terminal is saying to me.
Severity still says "Blocker" unless I missed something...
As for the terminal output, Wine is saying that it cannot find the game's executable.
Can you try going into the .wine prefix on your Mac until you find the rct2.exe and open a terminal where that executable file is and run it? Forgive me if I am asking an obvious question but it looks like the rct2.exe is being called on by you from a location where the file does not exist.
Could you perhaps list the steps to reproduce the problem?

--- Comment #9 from Chux cscarlettsmith@gmail.com --- Hey sorry for the delay, I've been coming back to it whenever I have the spare time to try and figure out the problem.
Basically this is the road block that I'm running into:
I can get the game to install and run to the main menu absolutely fine. 19 times out of 20 though the game will freeze when I select a menu option and say.
"error: access violation cannot find windows sound driver"
To tell you the truth I don't know what that means.

--- Comment #10 from Chux cscarlettsmith@gmail.com --- ***EDIT***
It says
"Exception Raised - Access Violation Error Location: Windows Sound Driver"
