Summary: Green textures and other corruptions in Portal Product: Wine Version: 0.9.33. Platform: Other OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-directx AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: spokehedz@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=8565) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=8565) Green textures. look into portal to see correct colors.
The game has color errors, which are shown below. The green ones were taken on my computer.
I am using the latest Nvidia drivers (installed via Envy) and my kernel/system is up to date.
In the attached picture, if you look into the portal that is on the wall, you can see the player character and the white walls which are supposed to be in the game.
The other pictures are examples of what the game is supposed to look like, and the same area with my install.
I have GLSL turned on in my registry. I have the correct amount of video memory specified as well.

Only seems to happen in DX9 mode. If I switch to -dxlevel 80, the graphics work but the game crashes within seconds.
I am also using an NVIDIA card. UseGLSL is enabled, and memory size set to the correct value.

It tells me that Steam is no longer supported by your version, and then exits.
How are you running Steam with Win98 selected?

--- Comment #19 from H3g3m0n █▓▒☢☣☠⚛▒▓█ H3g3m0n@gmail.com 2007-10-28 23:31:36 --- I still get this in 0.9.48, I noticed that 0.9.46 seems to have directx 8.0 listed in the ingame video settings by default but in 0.9.47+ this defaults to 9.0. It would seem that starting 0.9.46 with -dxlevel 90 causes the same problems and starting all builds with -dxlevel 80 seems to work.
Also once -dxlevel 90 was used, steam seemed to lock the game to this setting and needs to be overridden with -dxlevel 80. It probally happens the otherway around too.
Basically it seems that directX 9 support is broken and that newer wine version default to 9.0 rather than 8.0 which makes it seem like 0.9.47 is the cause.

--- Comment #22 from Steve Dougherty asksteved.com@gmail.com 2007-11-03 17:41:53 --- I don't think it makes the hangs worse. I think they were there for me with GLSL enabled, too. Disabling it didn't seem to have much of an effect on framerate. What card are you using? I have an nVidia 7600GT under Ubuntu Gutsy.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10033
--- Comment #23 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2007-11-03 17:45:01 --- GLSL _IS_ required for shaders 2.0+. And in turn shaders 2.0+ _are_ required for dxlevel 90+.
So disabling GLSL you exposing some unknown bugs in source. They have nothing to do with this bug.

--- Comment #26 from Renato Caldas seventhguardian@gmail.com 2007-11-28 15:55:36 --- Mostly fixed in current cvs, BUT it's really slow.
I've put everything on "low" and started the game from the beginning. It's still slow, but more "playable".
So the bad colors are mostly gone, but sometimes "green stuff" appears. A "green wall coming at me" appeared when Alyx used the gravity gun, and "green stuff" appears on the mountain tops, and whatever. I suspect this has to do with particles and effects like fog/whatever.
I've also noted some weird "particles" floating around inside the carriages, "about 20cm" above the water. But while Alyx move kind of "continuously", these particles are only updated about twice a second.
I'll try to make a screenshot of everything.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10033
--- Comment #27 from Renato Caldas seventhguardian@gmail.com 2007-11-28 16:40:26 --- I can't manage to reproduce the "green stuff" effects again. Maybe the engine changed some invisible setting or whatever after the first time I ran it under this wine snapshot..
As for the particles, I suspect they are just caused by a hogged cpu.
So the problem is fixed, apart from the fact that the game hogs a lot of cpu in dx9 mode (I have a fairly recent machine, T7200 cpu, 2G ram and a Geforce Go 7300).
