Summary: Spotify 0.5 crashes on start Product: Wine Version: 1.3.19 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: 13phil13@googlemail.com
When the latest version of spotify is run using wine on Ubuntu, the new user agreement pops up. Before this is properly loaded a "spotify has encountered a serious problem and needs to close" box comes up. Nothing can be done but to click 'close'. I've reported this to spotify via get satisfaction.

--- Comment #3 from David Hedberg david.hedberg@gmail.com 2011-05-08 20:46:38 CDT --- I can't reproduce this with spotify 0.5.0.805.gfc46d930 and latest wine git.
I do notice however that while the user agreement is shown in full when running under Windows, I am only presented with a link to it when running under wine. Is this maybe a work-around added by the spotify team?

I still have the problem - the window comes up with just a single link in it, everything seems fine then the error comes up. Someone's posted a workaround here: http://getsatisfaction.com/spotify/topics/spotify_0_5_crashes_under_wine?utm...
involving copying the files from windows over (after accepting the agreement on windows).

I've uploaded a new log but I'm not sure whether I did it right - just installed wine1.3-dbg then ran spotify from the terminal the same as usual. Sorry if it's wrong!

--- Comment #8 from gellohoodboy@gmail.com 2011-05-21 17:47:55 CDT --- I had this problem and I tried everything I possibly could and finally somehow managed to get over it. I had installed latest wine and latest Spotify. I'm using Kubuntu 9.04 by the way.
So I got the problem that every time I try to open Spotify it tells me there is a problem and it needs to close. Next I just ran it from command line, again it gave me the problem popup, but this time the program didn't shut down after that, but it stayed on. It was acting all silly, the graphics were all messed up, but it was working, playing tracks and so on. I don't know it this makes difference or not, but I turned off the facebook connection, then closed the program.
Next time I started it from the menu and it was working all nice and happy, zero problem. So there is some step at the beginning, presumably a popup window where you accept the new EULA, which causes the problem, but if you can trick Spotify to think you've agreed to it, then it won't ask it the next time and the problem won't occur.

Yes last night I managed to get Spotify working - it gave a bit more time before it crashed so every time I madly clicked on the 'accept' button or the button to close the box and after the third restart it was working. I'm having soundcard problems now - keep having to restart it but my guess is that it's unrelated.
