Summary: Battle Realms: Unable to install Product: Wine Version: 1.1.28 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: msi AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: debian@carbon-project.org
Created an attachment (id=23465) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=23465) MSI dialogue while installing Battle Realms.
When installing Battle Realms (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=4394) you're greeted with a dialogue like in the attached image. The buttons are not clickable, but you can navigate with TAB and activate them with ENTER. But as soon as you hit the license agreement screen and try to navigate to the accept checkbox you'll only manage to highlight the license text and won't be able to get out of the text field with the license text. At this point you can only terminate Wine.
A (temporary) workaround is described at http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=4394&iTestingId=44308 (short version: use MSI2 as provided by winetricks), but that still has glitches.

I've performed the installation described above with WINEDEBUG=+msi, this is the output. If you should need a different log, let me know.

As 1.1.31 fails completely different then before, I thought a new log might be in order.
Now the installer doesn't even offer the welcoming screen but tells me immediately, that an error has occurred, my system wasn't changed and I may finish the installation at a later point in time. I can then only click (clicking works though) on a button labelled »Binary19« (which seems to be the place holder for »Ok«). This results in closing the application.

Since 1.1.32 some buttons are rendered correctly as you can see from this attachment. This is an improvement over attachment #23465 But not all buttons/dialogues are displayed correctly, only some of them.

--- Comment #4 from Cùran debian@carbon-project.org 2009-10-25 13:32:39 --- Since 1.1.32 the installation itself works (though the process doesn't terminate correctly and you've to kill all remaining Wine processes manually), as long as you control it with the keyboard (mouse worked only on the very last dialogue) and don't hit the text field containing the EULA when navigating with TAB to the »Accept license« checkbox. After activating said checkbox you need to press ENTER again anything else (like TAB) results in failure (ie. hitting the text box).
Additionally you still can't select a different installation target or size than the defaults.

This is the log of a working installation with 1.1.32. To do this you need to control all action through the keyboard (mouse clicks simply don't work, but you can proceed with the keyboard) and you should neither move the focus to the EULA text field nor try to change any of the default settings (e.g. installation path), otherwise the installation still fails.
(Sorry for the compression, but I can't upload the uncompressed file.)

--- Comment #6 from Cùran debian@carbon-project.org 2010-01-28 04:11:16 --- Still there in 1.1.37. It got actually worse again, as the only way to install the program successfully is to use keyboard navigation. There is no reaction to the mouse. And you can't get out anymore of the aforementioned „highlight trap“ (EULA).

--- Comment #7 from Cùran debian@carbon-project.org 2010-02-10 10:47:17 --- The same as described in comment #6 with 1.1.38.

This is an log of the installation which wasn't finished due to hitting the EULA scroll-text field. The log seems different then before which is most likely because of the recent work on MSI.
Apart from this, it's the same as before (described in comment #6): using the mouse to activate buttons is impossible, the enter and tab key works (unless you hit the EULA field, which gets highlighted and then you can't get out). Therefore I'd like to confirm the existence of this bug with 1.1.39.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19949
--- Comment #12 from Cùran debian@carbon-project.org 2010-06-01 07:01:17 --- The demos I've found (e.g. [0]) don't show the problem, but they don't have the themed installer like you can see in attachment 23465 or attachment 24349 either. They use the "default" Windows MSI installer (GUI wise) AFAICT. And other "normal" MSI installers work too, so it doesn't seem surprising that the demo installer works.
But maybe you can tell me which debugging facilities you'd like to have or if I should run Wine with gdb or strace or something like that.

Though there was some improvement: I didn't manage to get stuck in the text field with the EULA. Still not working: - Mouse. - The entire installation, if the installation looses focus once (the attached log shows such an attempt).

There's no autoplay.exe in my Windows installation, but there might be in the directory where the installer is. If so, cd to that directory before launching the installer.
