I'm trying to run The Sims 3 on a laptop with a NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS under Ubuntu Precise 12.04 with Nouveau open source driver. Launcher and game start without any problems. However, at the loading screen there is no text at all and after loading is completed displayed text is unreadable (see attached screenshot).

--- Comment #1 from Hendrik Knackstedt hendrik.knackstedt@t-online.de 2012-04-29 05:40:15 CDT --- The problem already appeared for me in Ubuntu 11.10 but diappeared with the proprietary NVIDIA driver. However, in Ubuntu 12.04 the proprietary drivers don't work for my graphics card because they cause compiz to crash and break opengl support.

--- Comment #2 from Henri Verbeet hverbeet@gmail.com 2012-04-29 06:38:15 CDT --- This is most likely a driver issue, so bugs.freedesktop.org is probably a more appropriate place to file this. This first thing you'll want to check is probably if you have s3tc support (libtxc-dxtn) installed.

--- Comment #3 from Hendrik Knackstedt hendrik.knackstedt@t-online.de 2012-04-29 11:47:15 CDT --- That's it! Thank you so much!
Since s3tc support isn't available in Ubuntu Precise via the official repositories I installed s2tc but this solved this particular problem.
Thanks again.
