Wine Loads the setup.exe program, and appears to succeed. however, the resulting game does not run. output from the installer and the launcher are attached
additional information.
this was done after completely removing wine, the .wine folder, and all wine dependent packages, and then installing wine rc5 from the Ubuntu synaptic package manager.
the running system is a NW8440 HP laptop, with 3 gigabytes of ram, a core duo 32 bit processor, an ATI graphics card (unknown make, unknown model) 100 gb harddrive with a reasonably fresh ubuntu hardy-heron install. no swap partition (no need) a /home partition and a /root partition. there is no other OS installed and the drive was completely wiped beforehand.
there are no known issues with the hardware.
oblivion works on this laptop running under windows XP SP2
the game was not patched before being run.
patching the game using the latest patch version (1.2.0416) causes the patch to crash after reporting that an unspecified file's contents do not match. wine does not report any errors while running the patch.
