Summary: The Lost Crown's menu is no longer accessible in-game Product: Wine Version: 1.1.3 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: c_norris1989@hotmail.com
The Lost Crown, an adventure game, used to work near perfectly in wine. Now clicking the icon to display the menu causes it to crash. This prevents the user from saving the game, or quitting the program in the usual way. I don't know what to about a backtrace because if I try to run the game via the terminal, it won't work at all. So you'll have to tell me where I can find a log or something.

--- Comment #2 from drakh drakh@spamcop.net 2008-08-29 11:04:40 --- I've been unable to reproduce this in 1.1.3 (Ubuntu 8.04.1, Nvidia 96.43.05) with winetricks directx9 applied. The menu seems to work just fine. In any case, since the game does require a native dx9 dll to even run, I believe that makes this bug invalid?

Depends...can you reproduce it without dx9? Have you filed a bug for whatever bug dx9 is working around?
The regression test would be the most helpful information.

The game won't run at all without a native d3dx9_36.dll. It crashes complaining about "unimplemented function d3dx9_36.dll.D3DXCreateTextureFromFileInMemoryEx". Same as with bug 13150 and possibly bug 13605.
The regression test would be the most helpful information.
I was hoping to do it, but as I've been unable to reproduce the bug, I can't. I used a fresh install to a clean wineprefix, and then added winetricks directx9. Same result with both versions 1.0 and 1.1 of the game.

--- Comment #5 from Colin Norris c_norris1989@hotmail.com 2008-08-29 13:37:05 --- Sorry I'd like to do the regression test but I haven't found the time, I'll try to do it over the next few days.
Also, it seems that the UK version (which I'm using) is an actual different version to the US version. Seems odd, but still, it could turn out to be the reason you can't reproduce the bug.

Make sure you cd into the game's folder before running it. Not doing so tends to trip up a lot of games under Wine.

Can you check if you still see the bug using the same steps as me (fresh install, clean wineprefix, winetricks directx9)? What distro/video drivers are you running?

--- Comment #7 from Colin Norris c_norris1989@hotmail.com 2008-09-01 04:19:37 --- I've tried it with Wine 1.0, and oddly, it was the same. Which means this almost certainly isn't a regression, rather it's probably a problem with my configuration, but since I haven't changed anything since it worked, I've no idea what that could be. I have been able to run the game via the terminal (I wasn't in the game's directory, thanks drakh). Should I attach a copy of all the terminal's output?
