Summary: Battlefield Vietnam installer blacks whole desktop environment (Panel etc.) Product: Wine Version: 0.9.44. Platform: Other OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: P2 Component: wine-msi AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: martin@gamesplace.info
The Battlefield Vietnam installer blacks my whole desktop environment, including my panels. It is GNOME 2.18.3 running on Fedora 7.
At first, no background image appears in the installer, which is okay. But when the question appears if GameSpy Arcade should be installed, the desktop environment is being blacked.
I am going to attach screenshots.
Please tell me which further information you need to fix the issue.

This is the actual screenshot of the bug.
When I - for example - move a nautilus window about the black spots, the place where I moved it over gets back to normal.

--- Comment #3 from Martin Jürgens martin@gamesplace.info 2007-09-12 12:54:55 --- Sorry. I was wrong.
it starts blacking everything when the message appears saying that the latest DirectX version is installed and setup is not going to install a newer version.

--- Comment #6 from Lei Zhang thestig@google.com 2007-09-13 11:11:21 --- The desktop eventually comes back as you interact with it, right?
does running "xrandr -s 0" from the console redraw the screen? does the problem go away if you use a virtual desktop to the run the installer?

--- Comment #7 from Martin Jürgens martin@gamesplace.info 2007-09-13 11:22:21 ---
The desktop eventually comes back as you interact with it, right?
Yes, but only the parts that I interact with. Other parts remain black.
does running "xrandr -s 0" from the console redraw the screen?
No, nothing changes when I run "xrandr -s 0"
When I use a virtual desktop for installing the game, only the virtual desktop blacks (the ugly background color there is replaced by a black color ;)). When I minimize and maximize the virtual desktop, the black is gone and I have the ugly default background color again.

--- Comment #8 from killertux killertux@suomi24.fi 2007-09-14 04:03:06 --- hmm this could be related to DDraw rewrite between Wine 0.9.15 - 0.9.16 anyway if you set DirectDrawRenderer to opengl it should not draw the screen black... at lest last time I noticed this.

--- Comment #9 from killertux killertux@suomi24.fi 2007-09-14 04:09:20 --- this could be duplicate of bug 9506 or bug 4902 you should test if it happens in same way to know that.
