Summary: LV-426 launcher doesn't appear Product: Wine Version: 1.3.18 Platform: x86 URL: http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/11/9/1573365/lv_426. zip OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: gyebro69@gmail.com
The game is a freeware remake of a classic shooter game, called 'Aliens'.
When you start the game a launcher window should show up in the middle of the screen (approx. 480x360 pixels), containing the options: <Run game>, <Change mode> and <Quit>. The launcher doesn't appear in Wine.
If I start the game in virtual desktop mode I can only see the blue background, nothing else. Actually, the launcher is sitting there (in the middle of the virtual desktop) but it is invisible. If I click on the appropriate area in the blank virtual desktop, the game starts fine.
The launcher doesn't show up correctly in fullscreen mode either: a blank rectangle is placed in the middle of the screen (supposedly that is the launcher).

--- Comment #1 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2011-04-20 13:43:49 CDT --- Created an attachment (id=34245) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=34245) screenshot
If I switch to another application then switch back to Wine, the launcher window shows the contents of the previous window. I can even grab the launcher window and move across the screen, so it's not unresponsive (only the contents of the window are not drawn).

--- Comment #3 from Louis Lenders xerox_xerox2000@yahoo.co.uk 2011-04-27 14:39:44 CDT --- could be a problem in ddraw. When i disable it by running WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw=""" wine LV-426.exe the window comes up fine for me (i guess it falls back to opengl then??)

--- Comment #4 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2011-07-09 09:50:51 CDT --- This is the first time I rechecked this bug since I've upgraded to Fedora 15. Using Wine-1.3.24, the launcher is showing up correctly (in fullscreen as well as in virtual desktop).
Interestingly, on F15 I can't reproduce the reported problem with previous versions of Wine: 1.3.5, 1.3.18 etc. all display the launcher correctly. Lots of components have been changed in F15. Whatever it was...now it WORKSFORME.
