Summary: Black screen during flashbacks in F.E.A.R. Product: Wine Version: 1.1.12 Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: zarquon@t-online.de
I get a black screen during the "flashbacks" in F.E.A.R. v1.08 retail (for want of a better word, it happens from time to time, very frequently in the later levels). You can still see your HUD and your crosshair, and if you're attacked you see the red blotches indicating the direction of the attacker, also the game physics/movement still works (so you can often leave that section if you stumble around for long enough), but while it lasts you're completely blind. I have WINE-1.12 running as 32-bit application on a 64-bit x86_64 Gentoo system, using an Nvidia GF7900GS and 100.14.19 drivers (I've had problems with newer ones). I can provide a savegame demonstrating the issue for v1.08 retail of the game (UK Gold edition), assuming savegames can be transferred without the full profile. Since it's rather large (150kB zipped), I didn't just attach it; let me know if I should, otherwise I'll just wait if/until someone contacts me about it.

--- Comment #1 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-07-13 11:47:17 --- Is this still an issue in current (1.1.25 or newer) wine? Please attach terminal output.

--- Comment #2 from Andreas Dehmel zarquon@t-online.de 2009-07-13 14:05:56 --- With the current version (1.1.25), the entire title screen is black, so I can't navigate or try anything in the actual game. It's the same in Serious Sam II, BTW. It didn't crash, since you can still hear the music. It creates GLSL-errors like crazy, though (18 MB within seconds). I made a log and will add the beginning as attachment. The GL_INVALID_OPERATION (0x502) go on like this forever.

fixme:d3d_shader:print_glsl_info_log (11) : error C7531: global variable gl_FragData requires "#extension GL_ARB_draw_buffers : enable" before use
That's probably caused by 95788401af0f299ba7189b8a3f412a74b18b0713, in combination with the older driver you're using.

--- Comment #5 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2010-07-23 15:49:51 --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for a year. Is this still an issue in current (1.2 or newer) wine

--- Comment #6 from Andreas Dehmel zarquon@t-online.de 2010-08-07 13:46:30 --- I just tried it again with Wine 1.2 and unfortunately it's still an issue. I'm also at Xorg server 1.7.7 and Nvidia-drivers 195.36.24 by now (kernel 2.6.32). Since I've never seen this game run on Windows I'm not entirely sure what these passages _should_ look like, but I'm pretty sure complete blackness except for crosshairs and HUD is not right. I have these D3D-settings for the game in my user.reg:
"OffscreenRenderingMode"="fbo" "UseGLSL"="enabled" "VertexBufferMode"="hardware" "VertexShaderMode"="hardware" "VideoMemorySize"="512"
and I have similar ones active for other games, which work fine. Does really nobody else have this problem?
