Summary: Blitzkrieg game runs too fast Product: Wine Version: 1.1.31 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: pawel.stolowski@wp.pl
Blitzkrieg game runs too fast; it renders the game unplayable. The problem manifests itself in: - main menu, when entering profile name (cursor blinks very fast). - the game itself: units move in a blink of an eye, map scrolling is instantaneous, highlight for active action icon blinks too fast, water effects (rain, snow) are very fast etc.
Note, that due to bug #20311, it's only possible to start German or Russian campaign.

--- Comment #1 from Pawel Stolowski pawel.stolowski@wp.pl 2009-10-11 14:31:23 --- I'm not sure if it helps with debugging the problem, but I've just installed d3dx9_*.dll files via winetricks and now the game works with correct speed. Winetricks created 'native' overrides for d3dx9_26.dll ... d3dx9_42.dll.
Please let me know what can I do (specific trace flags?) to spot the problem in builtin libraries.

The trick with d3dx9_*.dll native overrides doesn't work for me any longer. The game now runs too fast (wine-1.1.42) with and without native libraries.

I didn't noticed such problem when testing bug 20311 under wine 1.1.42.

--- Comment #5 from Pawel Stolowski pawel.stolowski@wp.pl 2010-05-01 15:07:46 --- I think the problem may be with the game itself, rather than with wine. People complain about same issue with genuine Windows, when running the game on modern laptops: http://www.cdv-forum.com/cdvboard/english/showthread.php?t=15317&page=4
As a workaround I forced the lowest CPU speed (800MHz) using CPU Frequecny scaling applet for GNOME. Map scrolling in Blitzkrieg is still a bit too fast, but at least the game is playable (and its speed can further be adjusted by -/+ keys on numpad).
I think this bugreport can be closed.
