Dark Souls 2 - Scholar of the First Sin crashes on startup from Steam client. Game window shows up, but is empty (shows whatever window is behind it). A similar problem has been reported in the game entry here: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=32908

Wine build: wine-1.6.2
1.6 is not longer supported, please retest in 1.9.6 or newer wine.
Also, does a 32-bit prefix help?

--- Comment #2 from brendancronin@openmailbox.org --- Oh I don't know how I got 1.6.2 in there, sorry. I initially tested with 1.7.6 and 1.8.
I now retested it with 1.9.6 and I get a different problem: The game doesn't even begin to launch, neither from Steam not directly via the .exe (which launches Steam). The steam game startup dialog appears for a few milliseconds and the disappears, but nothing more happens. I get no error message, nothing.
A 32bit prefix will not work. As far as I understand it, SotfS is 64 bit code. Steam doesn't even properly install it in a 32bit prefix.
Thanks for the help!

--- Comment #8 from C0rn3j spleefer90@gmail.com --- 64 bit prefix, W7, nvidia proprietary drivers.
Game launches in a window, all I can see is black screen and I can hear music. It doesn't seem to be accepting any input either.
That said, game doesn't crash.
Wine 2.0 staging.

Some console output could help.
You can kill wine by wineserver -k if you just can type that somewhere.

--- Comment #10 from C0rn3j spleefer90@gmail.com --- Well this report seemed to be about the game crashing on startup - that does not happen anymore. I've opened a new issue here about no video. This game uses DX11 so it's very likely that.

Nope, still works flawlessly.
Despite the title this is a bug report for DS2: SotFS, if you're trying to run the original DS2 I believe there are still workarounds you need to use that should be described in the AppDB.

Nvm I can see that you're using SotFS from the backtrace, but it seems you are not running wine-staging.
Wine build: wine-2.10

--- Comment #18 from lilyrivers48@gmail.com --- Yes, the problem is that it does not work in 2.10 but does work in 2.9-staging. Although, 2.9-staging still has the black screen problem from https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42345

--- Comment #19 from selhar selhar@protonmail.com --- I've had this problem for months, game would start on a black/white/blank screen and just hang in there. No error to output, nothing. The issue was that my main game folder was called "armazém", which some configuration files renamed to "armaz?m", making all kinds of weird malfunctions that are impossible to trace.
After changing the folder name to remove the special character, many games that previously didn't run for impossible-to-track reasons are running perfectly.
