Summary: Left 4 Dead 2 fails to complete installation Product: Wine Version: 1.1.33 Platform: PC-x86-64 URL: http://www.steampowered.com/ OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P3 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: l_bratch@yahoo.co.uk
Created an attachment (id=25072) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=25072) Terminal output in latest Git.
This seems to be different to bug 20736 which was due to imagehlp/ImageAddCertificate(), and different to bug 20858 which can't even be reached any more.
When lauching game a completing installation dialogue appears, but fails at 1% with the error "Incomplete Installation (2)".
Attached is the terminal output. The game is trying to load between line 20 and line 49, which is from:
err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {9a5ea990-3034-4d6f-9128-01f3c61022bc} not registered
to
fixme:shdocvw:OleObject_Close (0x1def00)->(1)
The rest is just Steam.

I think this was supposed to be fixed, does this still happen with a clean installation? (Or did another Steam update break it again?)

--- Comment #5 from Luke Bratch l_bratch@yahoo.co.uk 2009-12-21 08:56:31 --- I'll test with a clean Steam install this evening - I was using my old one (but with a clean .wine). Sadly while I'm back home for Christmas I'm on a very slow line and re-downloading the game will take a long time.

--- Comment #6 from Luke Bratch l_bratch@yahoo.co.uk 2009-12-22 01:15:41 --- It seems that the game installs fine when the Steam directory is on the C: but not when on the Z:. I don't know if this is a Wine bug or a Steam bug.

What filesystems do you use for each of your partitions?

ext3 for all of them. The path when Steam was on the Z: was pretty long (Z:/mnt/sda4/installs/d_drive/Program\ Files/Valve/Steam/) which may or not be causing more problems.

--- Comment #12 from Paul Vreeland digitalstimulus@gmail.com 2010-05-01 18:54:08 --- I was also getting this bug when using Play On Linux.
However, without POL (without a wine prefix), the game ran and passed the install error.
I am not sure if it is Play On Linux or using wine prefixes. L4D2's DRM check or whatever doesn't like it.
1.1.43 Confirmed working with a straight wine (using ~/.wine) install.
Confirmed NOT working when using play on linux, with 1.1.33 - 1.1.43.
