Summary: Diablo 1.0x crashes on a read exception when entering main menu on x86_64 Product: Wine Version: 1.0.0 Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: kohen.d@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=15004) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=15004) Diablo 1 console log when it crashes.
Hello, I'm using a fully up-to-date (at the time of writing these lines) Fedora 9 installation on my AMD Athlon 64 CPU. Since all tests on the AppDB in this and later versions is silver and up, I believe that either my graphics card or my CPU bit mode is to blame. Graphics card - nVidia Corporation GeForce 8600 GT rev 161, Nvidia binary drivers. Clean wine dir, fresh install from 1.00 CD, tested with 1.09 patch as well as the 1.00 ver of the game (patched ddraw dll). Crashes after splash (or mouse or keyboard click). Attached console log. I'm a programmer so if you think I should try to comment things out, change code, etcetera, to test possible solutions, I can. Thanks in advance, David.

I get this exact bug on i686 with an unpatched Diablo. It crashes in Diablo.exe. However, after patching, it crashes in storm.dll.
Using Wine 1.1.21 on an AMD Athlon 64 X2 CPU.

--- Comment #5 from Saulius K. saulius2@gmail.com 2010-01-18 12:24:48 --- Hi, reporters
Will you be so kind as to check whether this is duplicate of bug 5253, please?
Running "sh winetricks corefonts" helps me to work around this. Already if I copy "Arial*.TTF" files OR "Times*.TTF" files to "$WINDIR"/Fonts , the game starts to run perfectly for me.

Works very well for me :) Thanks

--- Comment #11 from Saulius K. saulius2@gmail.com 2011-08-30 00:45:43 CDT --- I think it's not fonts that are missing. It's some bug, which gets hidden by installing alternative font version.
I doubt this bug can be correctly set as invalid.
No tests for Wine have been made to ensure the bug is invalid.

According to comment #7, probably yes.
Ben, do you still test on x86_64?
The bug may be stochastic. In the case of x86_64, could you run the game say 15x and look for a crash, please?
