Bug ID: 45875 Summary: Desperados: Jerky mouse cursor ingame, ok in menu (fine in wine-vanilla) Product: Wine-staging Version: unspecified Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: phaidros@gmx.at CC: leslie_alistair@hotmail.com, z.figura12@gmail.com Distribution: ---
With wine-staging, I get jumping mouse cursor in the game Desperados. The cursor seems to jump back uncontrollably, which makes the game unplayable. Interestingly, the cursor works fine in the game main menu. It also works in the im-game menu (pressing Esc in the game), only in the actual game where the characters are controlled with the mouse it shows the jerky behaviour.
I get this with wine-staging 3.13, 3.14, 3.15 and 3.16.
Wine-vanilla 3.0, 3.2, and 3.16 does not have this problem, here the mouse works fine in the menu and in-game.

--- Comment #1 from Fabian Maurer dark.shadow4@web.de --- Can you do a regression test to find out which staging patch introduces the issue?

Can you do a regression test to find out which staging patch introduces the issue?
How do i do that in a meaningful way? Do i have to disable patches one by one and rebuild/test every time or is there a better method?

--- Comment #3 from Fabian Maurer dark.shadow4@web.de --- For regression testing in general see https://wiki.winehq.org/Regression_Testing
For bisecting staging issues, just take vanilla wine and then apply all staging patches. Then you can do a bisect between before and after applying the patches.

Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood is also affected: https://www.fileplanet.com/113770/110000/fileinfo/Robin-Hood:-Legend-of-Sher...
According to my testing, the problem is caused by https://github.com/wine-staging/wine-staging/blob/master/patches/server-send...
Note that this bug as well as bug #39513 are present only in the original game (released in 2001). The publisher THQ released a patched version of the game a couple months ago to make the game compatible on modern systems. This new version is free from the problems.

There are no logs attached either.
I'm not sure logs are necessary if Béla's diagnosis is correct. Neither is it really surprising that patch has caused regressions, since it's been known to in the past (though unfortunately there don't seem to be any bug reports for it).

Sorry, amend that: bug 44032 is a regression caused by the same patchset. (I knew I had seen *some* bug about this before...)
