--- Comment #1 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2009-02-20 16:13:11 --- First why would you run it in win98 mode? Second - lots of things from win9x can not be supported. And will not be supported by Wine.

win98 mode has been the only way to get it to run, historically. I myself don't get this error from Wine, but it did just start giving a "Can not find 999.pal resource. If this is a CD-ROM game please make sure that a CD-ROM is loaded".
We'll have to figure out where in a regression things got messed up. Try with the newest version listed as working from the AppDB. I'll try to help look as well & we can report what we try here.

Yes, it works in native Windows 98 (at least it did for me). I believe Windows compatability settings are required on later versions of Windows to have any luck running.

Make sure your cdrom is configured in winecfg.
My Wine configuration hasn't changed in a long time and was fine for the cdrom. I think my issue was my Linux distro did an auto-update & a restart was required. After that everything was fine. I never experience any of the same issues as Maik T Wagner.
I also noticed that if I was watching Adobe Flash videos online at the same time, that Wine couldn't detect a wave out device and the game wouldn't run. You may want to check if you have a "Wave Out Device" under "Audio" in winecfg and close other apps that may be playing sound.
Maik, could you submit a more complete debug output? Maybe a "WINEDEBUG=+relay wine ~/.wine/drive_c/SIERRA/LSL7/SIERW5.exe &> dump.txt" or something? As it stands we can't recreate the error & crash elsewhere and some additional information on what the app was doing may be useful.

I've never seen this problem myself & never got more feedback from anyone who did. Either they had a configuration issue they resolved themselves, or gave up without providing any more feedback for anyone to help them.

Hello,
I would like to let you know that I finally got the game up and running okay. I set the "winecfg" to Windows 95 which worked okay. Also I tried "Windows 98" which I had issues with. Both Windows 95 and Windows 98 work okay now.
Thanks!
