/media/DATA is a mounted filesystem pointing to a physical disk partition
/dev/sda5 on /media/DATA type fuseblk (rw,nosuid,nodev,noatime,allow_other,blksize=4096)
Wine Version: 0.9.59 installed with Ubuntu tools
Message: <filenam> cannot be open. Check the spelling of the file name, and verify that the file location is correct.

What file system is /media/DATA? - /dev/sda5 on /media/DATA type fuseblk (rw,nosuid,nodev,noatime,allow_other,blksize=4096) Is a filesystem mounted on my Ubuntu system pointing to a physical Disk Windows NTFS Partition (D: on my Windows XP - I have the two operating system on my PC)
The message that I receive on Excel is: <filenam> cannot be open. Check the spelling of the file name, and verify that the file location is correct
- But the file exist and I can, at the sime time, open it directly on my Ubuntu with Openoffice. - Is not a question of permissions, I think....
Thanfs for your help.

NTFS-3G is not aware, nor was reported any functionality needed by Wine which is not provided by NTFS-3G already. Such support includes:
- shared writable mmap: http://ntfs-3g.org/support.html#wine - full ownership and permission support: http://pagesperso-orange.fr/b.andre/security.html

The first one is needed by Excel. And unfortunately it's not available for NTFS on current distros. Sorry should have been more specific.
