--- Comment #1 from Louis Lenders xerox.xerox2000x@gmail.com --- Does ``winetricks mdac28`` change anything?
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46121
--- Comment #2 from patpoch patrick.pochard@free.fr --- Hi I just removed the software , included winetricks mdac28 in the install script and began again. At the end , the problem is not solved. I tried to look around and found that the message is issued by listview (comctl32) because this message number is not handled by listview: instead of code , there is a comment : /* case LVM_ENABLEGROUPVIEW: */. Don't know if it is relevant , but I also found other issues concerning different message number that ended with a patch in listview. I just thought I would mention this, in case it helps. Thanks Patrick

To be a bit more sure the problem is really in comctl32, you could try if ``winetricks comctl32`` works around your problem.
Also, it would be a good thing to exactly describe what you do, "the function I try to use does not display anything (when it should)", is a bit vague, right?
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46121
--- Comment #4 from patpoch patrick.pochard@free.fr --- Hi, I already tried winetricks comctl2 and the software hangs at startup. 2 screens attached, on the first one I click on "préférences", a drop downlist appears and then I click on "catégories de notes" and then I get the second screen which does not display anything when it should should show 2 places where you can write notes. If you want to reproduce the problem, I can send you the software and the script to install it, It's not that big and it's quickly done. You just need an ubuntu/linuxmint machine with wine installed. Thanks Patrick

Hi,
Thanks Patrick
Well, I`m not an expert, just trying to get bugreport in good shape for developers. The messages in the console might not perse mean the bug is related to bug you see. Do they appear the very moment the empty window appears?
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46121
--- Comment #6 from patpoch patrick.pochard@free.fr --- Hi,
I can mention that it's when I try to use the "preferences/catégories de notes" that it hangs, however I'm not sure it helps unless one wants to reproduce the probleme. However I would be happy to know if the trace I sent is good enough or if I need to begin again changing some debugging parameters in order to get something more convenient for debugging purpose. Thanks Patrick

https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46121
--- Comment #8 from patpoch patrick.pochard@free.fr --- Hi, Yes it is , the install file is : setup-install-geneatique-2019.exe and I have it so if you don't wish to register on the site (it's mandatory to download), I can forward it to you. Actually, the install should be done using 64 bits, once it's done: - click on the dsktop icon, then choose the option "Laancer Généatique découverte" - then click on the "ouvrir&créer" icon (on the left side) - then choose the "démonstration" file. New screen comes up and shows the genealogy. If you take the "préférences" tag and then the "catégorie de notes" one, you get stuck, on a grey screen, nothing happen. The hitting <esc> will bring you back to the genealogie display.
If you install in 32 bits mode, you'll get an install issue with a third party program called prninstaller.exe, so keeping 64 bits looks good.

Hi, so i downloaded trial and gave it a try, but i can`t see an error. First I did winetricks mdac28 jet40 (not sure that is needed) and then installed and started the program. I can see 2 fields where I can type things--> see screenshot Do you get something differnt?

--- Comment #10 from patpoch patrick.pochard@free.fr --- Hi, Interesting, the only difference would be jet40, I'll give it a try with jet40 to morrow . BTW, which release of wine do you run and on which system do you test ? Thanks Patrick

wine-3.20 and i tested on debian (sid). BTW I think the mdac28 and jet40 are not even necessary. Are you sure you installed wine correctly? I saw for example some mshtml fixme`s i don`t see in your console output.

Well, the only thing that jumps out is (different from my output) 0009:err:winediag:SECUR32_initNTLMSP ntlm_auth was not found or is outdated. Make sure that ntlm_auth >= 3.0.25 is in your path. Usually, you can find it in the winbind package of your distribution.
I`d suggest to fix that anyway, regardless of it`s related to this bug (I would be suprised if it`s related really). Anyway, as it works for me, and for joapopa (thnaks for testing) it`s likely not a wine-bug but a configuration issue on your side, Maybe check if you have installed all necessary dependencies for wine? Did you compile wine yourself?
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46121
--- Comment #16 from patpoch patrick.pochard@free.fr --- Hi, I installed winbind , the ntlm_auth is fixed but the problem is still present. Regarding wine install, here is the script I use: sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 wget -nc https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/Release.key sudo apt-key add Release.key sudo apt-add-repository 'deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu xenial main' sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install --install-recommends winehq-devel
It's what is provided by the winehq site.
Now, some questions: Have you installed genealogie in 32 bits or in 64 bits ? Do you setup a specific windows version or do you use the default one (XP) ? Have you installed other prereqs than winbind ?
Genealogie itself needs dotnet40 and no other stuff (if I understand correctly), if your install has no specific prefix, would another package be present (due to previous tests ?) in the path ?
I'm on the way to reinstall a new test machine, system is up and running, I need another couple of hours to go through all the tests.

If I remember correctly 32 bits, and just windows7 version. Did not install dotnet40. Have you had any success with trying it out on ``new machine``

--- Comment #18 from patpoch patrick.pochard@free.fr --- Hi,
So , I found interesting things:
mint 18.3 : problem happens
mint 17.3: it works fine , so I don't really know what to do now, there is definitely an issue between mint 18.3 and wine 3.20.
I also tested debian 9.6 and the problem occurs, I did not test debian 8.11 , but I can do it if it helps.
Seems that there has been a change somewhere in the new versions and that creates the issue , or some libraries are not present any more when they were installed "by default" in the previous versions of mint & debian.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46121
--- Comment #19 from patpoch patrick.pochard@free.fr --- with mint 17.3 it works in 32 bits and 64 bits. With mint 18.3, it does not even install properly in 32 bits mode, there is an abnormal end in the program prninstaller.exe and there is some doc outputted . The 2 issues could be related (but not necesserally), should y upload this data ?

--- Comment #20 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr --- Did you compile wine by yourself? If not, you should.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46121
--- Comment #21 from patpoch patrick.pochard@free.fr --- I'll test that also, however , the use of the binaries should not bring issues , so it really seems that something needs to be fixed.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46121
--- Comment #22 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr --- Surely, that is your setup that is broken. Compiling wine will give the missing dependencies in your setup.
Wine does look broken for noone but you.

That doesn't mean it's a dependency issue that compiling will solve. Could be kernel/drivers or different version of dependencies.

--- Comment #24 from patpoch patrick.pochard@free.fr --- At this point I have 2 brand new install on 2 different systems. With mint 17.3 it works and with mint 18.3 it does not work. The setup is alsmost the same, for both systems so I don't think the setup has something to do unless there are specific things for mint 18.3 What I say is that the change of environment (I mean going from mint 17.3 to mint 18.3) implies differences in the environment. And the problem I have is (very probably) due to this. Possibilities are : - I need to add one or several system libraries which were present by default in 17.3 but have been removed in 18.3 , but which ones ?? - one or several linux components have changed in 18.3 and wine does not know that Please don't forget that the problem is also present with debian 9.6. Next step will be to try to compile wine.

Just for the info: I tested on debian Sid, and it worked fine.

--- Comment #26 from patpoch patrick.pochard@free.fr --- Hi, I'm trying to run a "sudo apt-get build-dep wine" to see the required dependencies but I'm not sure if the command is correct and also , the syntax of what I have to add in the /etc/apt/sources.list does not look obvious to me . Thanks

--- Comment #27 from patpoch patrick.pochard@free.fr --- Hi, I stopped triyng to compile the wine 3.20 version. There are too many "unresolved" (37), I managed to solve 25 but then I thought the objective was to get geneatique running wit a "regular" version which can be updated without spending hours on it. I called geneatique's tech support and they told me that the product uses wordpad to create these windows (which actually do not show up on linuxmint 18, linuxmint 18.3 , linux mint 19 and debian 9.6 but do show up on linuxmint 17.3). Would that help to minimize the seach area ? Thanks
