You still haven't fixed your X configuration. Wine does not invent display resolutions not reported from X. This is true for virtual desktop too. It has only few standard (4:3) preconfigured resolutions.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15936
--- Comment #11 from Julian Pietron julian@whisper-net.de 2009-01-17 03:51:03 --- So what means fixing the X configuration? In which way would I have to fix it? Because any other X11-application (KDE4-Desktop environment, GNOME-Software...) is running without a problem, and even switching from TwinView-Setup to one display only and setting the resolution via xrandr to e.g. 1280x960 as stated in one of the error output lines does not change the output. What do I have to add to my xorg.conf to make wine work?

--- Comment #12 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2009-01-18 12:59:17 --- List all the resolutions supported by your monitor & video card. Your output of xrandr in comment #6 indicated only one available resolution not suitable for game.

--- Comment #15 from Pavel Ondracka drakkk@centrum.cz 2009-07-24 15:05:02 --- I have this problem in wine 1.1.26. I'm not sure if I understand this right. It looks simple, these two lines indicate i don't have the required resolution: err:x11settings:X11DRV_ChangeDisplaySettingsEx No matching mode found 1280x960x0 @0! (XRandR) err:x11settings:X11DRV_ChangeDisplaySettingsEx No matching mode found 1600x1200x0 @0! (XRandR)
my output of xrandr looks like this: [Paulie@PauliePC ~]$ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 240, current 1024 x 768, maximum 1024 x 768 default connected 1024x768+0+0 0mm x 0mm 1024x768 50.0 51.0 52.0* 53.0 832x624 54.0 800x600 55.0 56.0 57.0 58.0 640x480 59.0 60.0 61.0 62.0 63.0 512x384 64.0 65.0 400x300 66.0 320x240 67.0 68.0
BUT the game IS working under Windows with 1024x768 resolution, even with 800x600. So I think this bug should be reopened. Or is this a X.org bug? I'll attach my full terminal output. I can provide more info if needed.

I didn't configured anything.I just used clean wineprefix, installed demo and tried to run it. Sadly I don't have a monitor with both these resolutions, so I can't test if the game would actually run with it. When I plug in monitor which supports 1280x960 the relevant line disappear. That looks promising. However this demo is working fine under Windows without 1280x960 and 1600x1200 resolutions and not working under Wine. I'm not a very experienced wine user and if you really think this problem is caused by my configuration or by some other bug not in Wine, I won't argue.

The errors about settings are harmless. The application tries the resolution until it finds one that is works.
This is a problem in d3d.

Pavel, your crash looks like a misconfiguration of some sort as previously mentioned, but the crash that David has just posted looks like the same crash as the first attachment posted in January.

--- Comment #21 from Pavel Ondracka drakkk@centrum.cz 2009-08-27 12:18:52 --- I'm sorry for this confusion, it looks like it is truly some misconfiguration on my side. I discovered, that when I run the game using gnome menu shortcut I can make it into the game menu. But when I run it from the console using this command ( env WINEPREFIX="/home/Paulie/.RCT3" wine "C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Demo\RCT3.EXE" ) it crashes. But this is the same command as in menu, which is working. So probably my problem was caused by me even thought I don't know what I did wrong. Sorry.
