Summary: 0.9.43 breaks Sherlock Product: Wine Version: 0.9.43. Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-misc AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: marcw@onlymooo.com
Created an attachment (id=7578) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=7578) Backtrace for 0.9.43
I've been successfully using Scott Ritchie's Ubuntu packages for quite some time, updating as they become available all the while. The primary purpose for me is an old Win95 game called Sherlock. I just updated to 0.9.43 and it immediately breaks Sherlock. Backing up to any previous version fixes things. Backtrace attached.

--- Comment #1 from Jesse Allen the3dfxdude@gmail.com 2007-08-13 18:37:48 --- This looks like a 16-bit app. Can you please try a checkout with git as this may already be fixed.

--- Comment #2 from Lei Zhang thestig@google.com 2007-08-13 18:43:39 --- Also, the backtrace would be more helpful if it had debugging information. (compare with attachment 7568) If you can, please build your own copy of Wine and attach that backtrace, but as Jesse mentioned, it may be fixed in git already.
BTW, Is this the application? http://www.kaser.com/sherwin.html

--- Comment #3 from Lei Zhang thestig@google.com 2007-08-13 18:51:25 --- FYI, I think Jesse was referring to bug 9089, but this looks different. You may have to run a regression test to find the cause of the problem:

--- Comment #4 from Jesse Allen the3dfxdude@gmail.com 2007-08-13 19:04:39 --- I'm thinking it's the same crash found in bug 9249.

Also, the backtrace would be more helpful if it had debugging information. (compare with attachment 7568 [details]) If you can, please build your own copy of Wine and attach that backtrace, but as Jesse mentioned, it may be fixed in git already.

After checking out and building from git a few moments ago, the problem went away; Sherlock works as it should.
And yes, that indeed is the Sherlock I'm running. Hey, some of the old games are still pretty good.
I suppose this will be fixed in 0.9.44, yes? I do like using Scott's packages.
