--- Comment #5 from Wherestheanykey rapid_fire1@hotmail.com 2008-08-23 09:20:55 --- How it worked for me: Ubuntu x64 / Wine 1.12 / Core 2 Duo - Hardware / Shaders enabled in Wine.
Installed AOE2 no problems - patched to 2.0a - Played fine - Menu colours wrong (as reported in other bug report) but ingame text correctly coloured. Installed Conqueror's addon - experienced the same error. Tested again after patching to 1.0c - same error. Sourced a no-cd patch for both Aoe2 and Aoe2 1.0c Conqueror's (even though I own a genuine version). Conquerors addon ran fine using the no-cd.
Might just need a mapping to the cd drive or be a safedisc error. Usually if you tried to play in Windows without a cd present it would alert you, perhaps the message box isn't able to be displayed.
Notes: Added -nostartup to end of commandline to skip intro movies - optional Gameplay isn't quite as fluid as in Windows there's some small pauses but it doesn't prevent you from playing. Even in Windows there were huge pauses in large games, sometimes for minutes at a time.
HTH those Aoe2 and Wine fans :) For me it's 1 more game I can play without changing O/S to play it. Thx Wine community.
