Steps to reproduce:
1) remove ~/.wine
2) wine MATLAB R2011a.exe

Behaviour:
No response, even in terminal.

Expected behaviour:
Matlab should start as it does in Windows or on Linux with non-portable version
through Wine.

Is there anyway to download this? I could not find anything about a portable
version in Mathworks site.

It's a version of matlab prepared by 3rd party. You won't find it on Mathworks
site. Anyway you've got "all" log.
