Summary: Office Professional Plus 2010 install fails Product: Wine Version: 1.3.29 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Keywords: Installer Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: dimesio@earthlink.net Blocks: 25476
Created attachment 36540 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=36540 install log
This bug is for the full version, not the trial.
The installer gets a little more than halfway through, then "encounters an error" and rolls back the install. Winetricks dotnet20 works around it and enables the install to complete. That leads to bug 25476.

--- Comment #2 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2011-09-25 06:42:45 CDT --- I already deleted the wineprefix that log was created from, so I can't check that one.
I just re-ran the installer on a clean wineprefix, and this time the line complaining about sqdedev.DLL refers to "C:\users\dimesio\Temp\msi60a5.tmp". That file exists in the Temp directory, but there is no msi60a5 folder.
I also retested with winetricks dotnet20 installed, and that log also shows an error about sqdedev.DLL not being found, but the installer completes and reports success.

It's a custom action called ExecXmlConfig that fails. The string "C:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\machine.config" printed shortly before the failure suggest it's trying to access files that belong to the .NET 2.0 runtime.
You could copy machine.config from a .NET 2.0 installation to verify this theory (and repeat the procedure for any other file if necessary).
Another thing to try is to not pretend that .NET 2.0 is installed by removing C:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727 and associated registry keys.

Thanks for testing. Can you check if Mono's machine.config is also sufficient? On my machine it's installed in /etc/mono/2.0 by a package called mono-runtime. Mono for Windows installs it in C:\Program Files\Mono-2.10.2\etc\mono\2.0

--- Comment #13 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net 2012-04-29 04:25:34 CDT --- Hello,
what is the point of this bug? That custom action fails on purpose due to a missing prerequisite: .NET
You either have to provide .NET installation through 'winetricks -q dotnet20' or Mono. The problem is that Mono provides the 'machine.config' file in non-standard location. Either winetricks recipe needs a fix to copy that machine.config file to 'C:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\machine.config' after Mono installation or wait until a Mono package exists one day which will include this step.
Appdb:
--- quote --- Note: If installing Office Professional Plus, copy a machine.config file from either a .NET 2.0 or Mono install to the wineprefix's drive_c/windows/Microsoft.NET/Framework/v2.0.50727/CONFIG directory. --- quote ---
If you already have .NET Framework 2.0 prerequisite in the WINEPREFIX where Office 2010 gets installed to there is *nothing* to do.
If anything this is a Mono-integration problem and it should be explicitly stated as. There is nothing to fix in Wine itself here.

I think we can close this bug when there's a stable release of the wine-mono package. The 'first draft' version already installs machine.config in the right place:

Likely because of the registry keys that indicate that .NET is installed. This should also be fixed by the wine-mono package, which will remove those keys if you uninstall it.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28486
--- Comment #17 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net 2012-04-29 07:07:28 CDT --- Hello,
the best way would be to remove all "fake" .NET registry/file stuff that now lives in default WINEPREFIX at the point the Mono package is considered 'stable'. It just harms many installers and is also a reason for various workarounds in .NET winetricks recipes (I wasted lots of time on this due to Mono).
--- quote --- The installer succeeds on Windows XP without it and without a machine.config file, and it does not install them itself, either. That makes it a Wine bug. --- quote ---
So it got broken due to Mono "integration". In the end the goal should be to install MS Office 2010 in a clean WINEPREFIX without having to install/uninstall Mono.

That's the plan, the wine-mono package will own all keys and fake dlls related to a .NET installation.

In the end the goal should be to install MS Office 2010 in a clean WINEPREFIX without having to install/uninstall Mono.
Exactly, but until wine-mono implements enough of .NET it may be necessary to uninstall it (and perhaps replace it with native) in order to get programs to install and run.
