Bug #: 33630 Summary: msmoney 2003 crashes when opening data file Product: Wine Version: 1.5.30 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: jmd_forest@yahoo.com Classification: Unclassified
After returning from 11 day vacation on 5/19/2013 and installing Kubuntu updates accumulated during that period, (including kernel IIRC) MSMoney 2003 crashes upon opening the user's data (username.mny) file. I installed the newest version of WINE plus reinstalled MSMoney 2003 and encountered the same problem after each step. Upon initial install of the updates, MSMoney would crash and then enter a crash/restart loop after presenting a MS error dialog box (vague message that MSMoney had encountered a serious error). I didn't realize it was crashing upon opening the .mnt file until reinstalling MSMoney 2003 since MSMoney automatically opens the last file it was using upon startup. After reinstalling MSMoney 2003 into WINE, MSMoney would start up correctly since it had no previously used file to try and open but crashed with identical error as soon as the user selected to open their .mny data file. Before the installation of the accumulated Kubuntu updates MSMoney 2003 worked fine.

Unfortunately I do not know how to downgrade wine. If you have any hints I would give it a try.
Thank you

Please attach it as a file in the future.

There's an archive of ubuntu packages here: http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/archive/binary/
though you might check /var/log/apt/history.log and /var/log/dpkg.log to see what other packages changed.

Thank you for your help. My logs show that on 5/19 wine 1.5.29 &1.5.30 were installed in the accumulated upgrades I mentioned in the initial post. I am having trouble downgrading to wine 1.5.28 as the install cannot resolve dependencies

--- Comment #5 from Ken Sharp imwellcushtymelike@gmail.com --- Does this still occur in Wine 1.7.16 or later?

--- Comment #6 from jmd_forest@yahoo.com --- I am currently running 1.6.1 (or so it says in the About Wine tab in Wine Configuration) under Kubuntu 12.04 LTS and MS Money 2003 works just fine. It has been working fine since the next update of Wine after my initial problems on 5/19/2013.
Hopefully, there is no reintroduction of the bug in later versions. My wife has been using MS Money for 10 years or more for our family finances and the MS XP box running it went flaky and I moved the MS Money over to run on my Linux box under Wine a few months before the crash occurred last year.
Thank you for looking into this .
