Bug ID: 42153 Summary: winetricks access only instead of configure wine Product: Wine Version: 1.9.20 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: rams1@iinet.net.au Distribution: ---
Started when updating from 1.7.55amd64 or 50 to 1.9.20amd64 I think, but I'm not sure which because I forget exactly! Just changed access method automatically! Does play on Linux interfere?
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42153
--- Comment #1 from amigad rams1@iinet.net.au --- Only way to access c_drive + other tools!
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42153
--- Comment #2 from Nikolay Sivov bunglehead@gmail.com --- What exactly happened?
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42153
--- Comment #3 from amigad rams1@iinet.net.au --- Updated Wine separately after installing play on Linux earlier & winetricks decided to take over access to separate wine. Does POL interfere/conflict & cause link breaks to even stop being able to access the old link to app names 'configure wine, Browse c: drive' + others to now be the default access to wine only?
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42153
--- Comment #4 from Nikolay Sivov bunglehead@gmail.com --- POL and Winetricks are not supported here. What do you mean by taking over access to wine? Sorry, but none of that makes sense to me yet.

--- Comment #5 from amigad rams1@iinet.net.au --- When I updated single(usual) wine 1.8.0 to 1.9.23 actually winetricks took over from 14.04 unity configure wine, browse c: drive & the other direct select named parts of wine program so only winetricks allows access to adjust settings or browse the wine1.9.23 to latest 2.0-rc2 default/system directory.
I'd like to go back to the part selection before winetricks took-over?

--- Comment #6 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com --- Hi, I'm sorry but your comments still do not give any clue about what you are doing.
winetricks is a tool to install applications and Windows components inside a wine prefix. If no wine prefix is selected while installing components it will install to the default prefix, which is located inside your home folder at ~/.wine
PlayOnLinux is a tool to help run different versions of Wine and simplify managing different wine prefixes.
So you say you updated Wine, you mean you used a package from your GNU/Linux distribution to upgrade wine, or you mean you used PlayOnLinux to install new Wine versions inside POL?
When you say "separate wine" I guess you are talking about a wine prefix from inside POL and your standard prefix at ~/.wine, right?
winetricks alone can't do anything, so the part where "winetricks took over" makes no sense until now.

--- Comment #7 from amigad rams1@iinet.net.au --- Separate = PPA Single Wine from this site. POL = Play on Linux Multiple Versions downloaded from there site.
Winetricks stopped the PPA being setup using 'Configure Wine, Browse c: Drive' + other selected parts of Wine directly from the program/app list provided by Wine with named click-on icons previously seen on Unity & other Desktops.
I have to now access PPA Wine via wine'Dirty'tricks instead of directly clicking on the icon on Unity. Example: to adjust settings with winecfg I have to click on wDt!
Seems like a path bug that adds to the default setting unannounced til experienced!

--- Comment #8 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com --- So what you are saying is that clicking on previously created program icons will no longer launch wine?
Did you install winetricks using the distribution package? If yes, does removing it solve the issue?

Desktop/menu links for Wine's builtin programs are not part of plain Wine and not included in the WineHQ packages. They may have been added by a distro package and/or POL, but are not supported here. https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu

I tried removing winetricks & still cannot get access back.
Of course not; winetricks has nothing to do with those links. As explained in comment 9, those links are not part of Wine or the WineHQ packages. They were provided by the distro package you formerly used and removed when you switched to the WineHQ package.
The instructions on https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu state clearly that that is to be expected.
If you want those links, either create ones yourself using whatever menu editor your distro provides or go back to using a package that does provide them.
There is no bug here. Please stop posting about it.
