Summary: Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne crashes after 1.1.8 upgrade Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: ryanprior@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=17152) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=17152) Contains a PNG screenshot of the crash screen and the text output from the terminal.
After the upgrade to Wine 1.1.8, I joined a game of DotA (my usual use for W3:TFT) which caused the game to crash. I grabbed a screenshot of the crash screen and the output to the terminal window, which I will attach.

--- Comment #2 from NVS notveryserious@gmail.com 2008-11-22 10:25:31 --- I think this is related to -ah mode in DotA. I can play ladder, other customs, and even DotA (without -ah) all day and no fatal errors occur. However, once -ah is enabled, it seems almost like it is just a matter of time before I get a fatal error.
Anyways, I wouldn't say it is out of the question that Warcraft 3 map script (JASS) can cause this. It is known that JASS code that can execute fine on Windows machines can cause fatal errors on Mac. My guess is the same could be said for Warcraft 3 through Wine.

--- Comment #5 from Wolter Hellmund wolterh6@gmail.com 2009-05-19 17:07:12 --- Well, I have researched a little about this topic lately, because my friends have been playing warcraft, so I have to log into Vista (:s) and play.
I noticed that the crash--or at least my crash--happens only when in the chatzone. Once the game is started everything goes smooth. Some even say that the new banners are causing this.

--- Comment #6 from NVS notveryserious@gmail.com 2009-05-19 17:49:21 --- ==> Original bug report has a poor summary/title.
It is too vague. It encourages people who are not familiar with their issue or do not spend the needed time researching to simply jump on board with an unrelated topic that may be better served elsewhere. There is also a lack of information by the original bug poster. When did he crash: while playing the map or while in the game lobby?
==> The ORIGINAL (http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15963#c0) bug report is related to fatal errors WHILE playing a custom map (DotA).
There are many things that can seem to cause fatal errors in Warcraft III (ATI cards, the addition of Warden, etc.). A number of things could cause the ORIGINAL particular bug report: however, there is a lack of information.
Most likely it happened while playing the map and is related to the execution of poor JASS code inside custom maps. This is known to be a cause for fatal errors on ALL operating systems (look at http://www.wc3c.net/showthread.php?t=80693 for known bugs in JASS). Also, it is possible it could be specific to just running via Wine; some fatal errors exist for Mac, but not Windows, for example.
==> In regards to the original bug report...
There was a bug in DotA regarding abilities/items that caused fatal errors (see changelog for DotA v6.59: http://www.getdota.com/changelogs/index/33). Once that was fixed my RARE fatal errors (when not using -ah) disappeared almost entirely. I still have what seems like a 50/50 chance (or more) to get a fatal error when -ah mode is enabled. But like I said, probably poor JASS coding.
Could my hunch be wrong in regards to the ORIGINAL bug report? Possibly.

I believe the cause is not the one when entering a dota game. It occures every time after ~30s when browsing through the list of custom games in battlenet. Probably it was just a coincidence with the join of a dota game.
I can revert the commit except for one hunk in dlls/ntdll/virtual.c which I had to revert manually. Reverting the commit removes the problem.
