Summary: Wine makes system very slow Product: Wine Version: 1.3.26 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: iam@valdikss.org.ru
Hello! I've bought Thinkpad X220 a few weeks ago and installed ArchLinux x64. If I run any application in wine, even native, like winecfg, while it loads system becomes very slow, mouse shutters and xorg cpu load is about 67-80%. Here is a video I recorded on camera. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlW2qk7pV7c Maybe that's not a wine bug, maybe something with intel HD 3000, but this happens only with wine.

--- Comment #1 from iam@valdikss.org.ru 2011-08-17 12:13:08 CDT --- Installed ubuntu 11.04 x64 to the usb flash disk, ran it and got the same effect. So that's something with drivers? Because on the other laptop and on the desktop wine works fine more than a year.

--- Comment #2 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2011-08-17 12:32:16 CDT --- Try using a system profiler (oprofile/etc.) to see where the time is being spent.

Here is a sysprof log. As you can see in the log, drm_get_edid takes all the cpu time and causes mouse shutters and everything. So I think this is a driver bug, but it works only in wine. I'll make a bugreport at freedesktop.

I did a patch for intel i915 driver and tested it just now. It works, but hdmi is completely disabled. Will make bugreport on freedesktop. This can be wine issue also because only wine is checking hdmi all the time.

--- Comment #8 from iam@valdikss.org.ru 2011-08-18 04:24:26 CDT --- Here is wine in ArchLinux x64 with i915 patch (wine version 1.3.26) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KHYjI8Se00
Here is in ubuntu 10.04 x86 without patch (wine version 1.3.15) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-n9Qt5TrHk
In ArchLinux osu is choppy and freezes every second with patch, and without patch is very choppy and freezed almost all the time. In Ubuntu you can see mouse freezes but osu is very playable. I think that's because Ubuntu is x86. I've downgraded wine down to 1.3.15 in ArchLinux but everything is still the same.
On ArchLinux libdrm 2.4.26, xf86-video-intel 2.15.0, mesa 7.11 and kernel 3.0.2 On Ubuntu xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.14.0, libdrm 2.4.23, mesa 7.10.2, kernel 2.6.38-8.

--- Comment #11 from iam@valdikss.org.ru 2011-11-07 12:16:39 CST --- Up. I found a workaround: to run something in fullscreen desktop wine window.

--- Comment #12 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2013-11-13 16:51:17 CST --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for 2 years. Is this still an issue in current (1.7.6 or newer) wine? If so, please attach the terminal output in 1.7.6 (see http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log).
