Is this still a problem in current (0.9.52 or newer) wine?
I'm not sure if this is 100% the same issue as the bug report, but it is the same problem as in the comment by Adam Piątyszek. This has also been reported by hasi at http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=2735&iT...
This problem occurs in wine-0.9.56 with Microsoft Word 2000 and 2003. Assuming Microsoft Equation Editor is selected during installation of MSOffice, simply launching Word and going through the following Insert->Object->Microsoft Equation 3.0, the following dialog appears:
--- The server application, source file, or item cannot be found. Make sure the application is properly installed, and that it has not been deleted, moved, or renamed. [OK] ---
Equations in Word are not usable because of this (slightly problematic for scientific publication). A different message occurs if you try to edit an equation. The dialog after double clicking on a pre-existing equation is:
--- Microsoft Word can't start the application required to open this object. An error occurred and this feature is no longer functioning properly. Would you like to repair this feature now? [Yes] [No] ---
Clicking on either [Yes] or [No] causes the first dialog to appear again.
I'll attach the logs as the fixme and err messages are bit different.
