Summary: Crashday: Grey overlay at loading screen Product: Wine Version: 1.1.21 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: crashkopf@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=21150) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=21150) Screenshot of bug.
When loading a game (singleplayer/career), there is a grey overlay which hides ca. 3/4 of the whole screen. Since it hides the progress bar, you can not find out when the games is loaded so you have to press enter when you think it's done. Sometimes the overlay is smaller or grows while loading.
This bug also happens in 1.0.1 and other randomly chosen versions from 1.0.1 to 1.1.21.
See attached screenshot.

--- Comment #1 from fn65j24kqrgxys7@thisisnotmyrealemail.com 2009-06-01 11:12:46 --- I can confirm this bug. The overlay is not only gray btw, mostly kind of blue. It seems to be the sky texture.

--- Comment #2 from fn65j24kqrgxys7@thisisnotmyrealemail.com 2009-06-05 08:04:43 --- Also there's an overlay over all the HUDs in the game. It is really annoying.

--- Comment #3 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2010-03-11 17:21:22 --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for 8 months. Is this still an issue in current (1.1.40 or newer) wine?

--- Comment #4 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2010-03-15 11:14:27 --- Created an attachment (id=26825) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=26825) console log from the demo
I tried the demo version with Wine-1.1.40, the issue is still there. Link to the demo: http://www.gamershell.com/download_12336.shtml
The color of the overlay is sometimes grey, sometimes orange, depending on the sky textures.
The game also logging its own messages to the console, I removed those lines from the log that doesn't belong to Wine. Tested in a clean wineprefix. After the first try I installed native DX dlls with winetricks, nothing has changed.
Fedora 12 x86 Wine-1.1.40 Nvidia 7600 GT with driver 195.36.08

This bug is not related to WINE.
I have Intel 4500M in my laptop.
Mesa 7.7.1 Intel 2.9.1 Xserver 1.6.4
The game is playable in high graphics setting and there is no such bug, everything is alright.
On the other hand on my Desktop, which is loaded with nVidia has is bug.
File a bug to nVidia.
Thank you.

--- Comment #8 from Stefan Dösinger stefandoesinger@gmx.at 2011-09-18 17:04:12 CDT --- Patch 9bcd58f312af374a3345dc72e66686fbc2b2bfcd that was commited a few days ago should fix this bug. The problem was our fault, not Nvidia's. The game probably worked on Intel driver because the Intel driver might not implement GL_NV_fog_distance. Despite the NV in its name this extension is fairly common and most GPUs/drivers support it.
Please retest the game with current Wine git and mark the bug resolved if it works.
