Summary: Dungeon Siege installation impossible Product: Wine Version: 1.0.0 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: ingo@gerth-ac.de
Created an attachment (id=14298) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=14298) Wine's output during the installation
During the installation of Dungeon Siege, the text in info boxes is not drawn correctly, i.e. they boxes are plain blank.
This makes it impossible to install the game. I believe that at one point of the installation the routine tries to ask me to put the second CD into the CD slot but it is not possible because the O/S says it is used by another process.

Yes, the rendering problem is still prevalent. However, the demo installs properly because you do not need to change the CD during the installation process.

--- Comment #5 from Ben Leggett algosystem@gmail.com 2008-08-22 18:38:16 --- You can install this game, I just tried it.
1. Mount CD1 at say, "/mnt/cdrom", run the install program.
2. When the blank "change cd" dialog pops up, unmount and eject the cd with "wine eject"/"sudo eject" etc.
3. Insert disk 2, and mout it at the exact same place.
4. Click ok.
5. Installation will continue.

I have tried installing Legends of Aranna (Dungeon Siege + Expansion).
In the window installer, I can't click on any of the choices (I'd like to click on 'Install' but no button is drawn, only the text shows...)
Please see the attachment to see how it is displayed.

--- Comment #10 from Daniel Santos daniel.santos@pobox.com 2009-08-20 22:10:02 --- Here's an FYI on a probable work-around (it does not address rendering issues).
Microsoft Setup (as it's been known internally) has long had support for multi-disk installs where images or files are stored in a network server. As such, this even exists for their game products since nobody there has the brains to disable it for software that they wont be selling site licenses too, as they do for MS Office, etc. Thus, you can work-around this problem by copying the contents of each cd into directories named disk1, disk2, disk3, etc. Example:
/home/daniel/CDs/m$/dungeonsiege/disk1 /home/daniel/CDs/m$/dungeonsiege/disk2 /home/daniel/CDs/m$/dungeonsiege/disk3
with each of these directories containing the appropriate contents of those CDs. The installer will not ask you for the disks as it will find them on its own. This mechanism has existed for at least 15 years that I am aware of. Subsequently, the setup program will also record the location of your CD ROM drive in the following registry entry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Dungeon Siege Legends of Aranna\1.0] "CDPath"="Z:\home\daniel\CDs\m$\dungeonsiege\disk3"
Note that it has correctly recorded the location of the last disk, the one you normally need in the CD-ROM drive to play. You can change this location to your real CD-ROM drive (or any other location, should you please) by editing this registry entry.
Please keep this facet of Microsoft Setup in mind for future application issues as it can be a very handy work-around for a lot of problems.

In current git (1.1.44), the icons are clickable now; I have been able to install the game properly.
