--- Comment #1 from Andre Wisplinghoff andre.wisplinghoff@gmail.com 2008-01-13 11:46:00 --- Confirming in current Git. I'll attach a +relay log. A workaround is to go to $pathtocd/setup/$yourlang/ and run setup.exe instead of $pathtocd/autorun.exe. This works for me (there are only a few messageboxes as the beginning that he can't figure out what hardware you have).

You should be aware that this already is a windows issue and probably not introduced by Wine. Actually the most common reason behind this is that a pc running Fifa98 RTWC is not allowed to have mor than 1G ram or the mem size check fails (your message).
I usually removed some memory and rebooted windows to get Fifa runign on newer hardware.
Atm I don't know if you can restrict wine memory per config, but as last resort option you can boot with mem=900m kernel parameter to get rid of this.

--- Comment #11 from Christian Ehrhardt paelzer@gmail.com 2009-11-08 06:05:01 --- I was able to recheck with Ubuntu 9.10 / wine 1.0.1
The installation via autorun in this version still fails with some page fualt errors, however installation works when invoking the language setup you need directly - in my case german:
'wine /media/cdrom0/setup/german/setup.exe'
Afterwards FIFA98RTWC is installed, but not working due to the "insufficient memory" issue described above. As I explained before I knew that this affetcs windows too once it has >1Gb memory.
I rebooted with mem=800m and e voila - running FIFA98RTWC. A bit jiggy mous in th menu, but neatly working when playing the game.
I tried memory restriction with ulimit instead of boot parameters, but that did not help.

No, there's still a valid download and the bug is easy enough to find.

I still see the memory problem in wine-1.3.4-362-gb20e75f. I didn't try rebooting with grub mem=XXXmb option.

well, im here. The reason for not replying was that you have already said its a "normal" behavior in Windows ( see comment #10 )
