Summary: Left 4 Dead 2 crashes trying to join a multiplayer game Product: Wine Version: 1.1.35 Platform: x86 URL: http://store.steampowered.com/app/550/ OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: chris@boyle.name
Created an attachment (id=25524) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=25524) Failure to join a dedicated server
On wine 1.1.35 (built from git at tags/wine-1.1.35) I can play single-player games of L4D2 quite happily, but if I try to join a multiplayer game, whether I've searched for it or created it, I see the "movie poster" screen with the progress bar, and immediately after the progress bar fills up the process exits abruptly. I will attach output of this happening and of a single player game working.
If I try instead to create a locally-hosted game (instead of dedicated) I get a hang instead of an exit, at the same point (end of progress bar). I will attach the output of this as well.
The command in all cases was:
env WINEPREFIX="/home/foo/.wine" wine "C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\steam.exe" -applaunch 550
I have tried git 9dc584d0a2cae7cfb4816fe982071d264d2345ff Thu Dec 31 12:03:01 2009 +0000 with the same result.

Thinkpad x220 (Intel HD Graphics 3000) Arch linux winetricks steam (with and without winetricks d3dx9) xf86-video-intel 2.17.0 intel-dri 7.11.2
Strangely it was working better previously where I could start and be in a multiplayer game ~10 minutes before a crash, but then would crash almost immediately when re-joining. After reinstalling Steam in an attempt to fix that I'm getting the above behavior.

--- Comment #7 from wine@lannbox.com 2012-02-04 14:48:20 CST --- Reinstalling L4D *again* has resolved this for me. Perhaps there was a coincidental patch for the game.

--- Comment #8 from tracker.rrx@gmail.com 2012-11-09 04:56:39 CST --- Same problem for me as "Chris Boyle".
Using wine 1.5.16 via steam. Game starts up with menu showing up as it would on windows. Using low settings to maximise chance of not recieving error on this behalf.
I can start the game up in singleplayer with no issues running steady FPS. But whenever i try to run a multiplayer game online or offline the game crashes after loading screen without visible errors (CTD).
I have tried several fixes, but none that works so far:
- Tried delete common.ncf and client.ncf and reinstall the files, no improvement - Tried delete whole game and reinstall it, no improvement - Tried verify files several times, no improvement. - Tried using native urlmon.dll, no improvement
Running Ubuntu x86 12.10 with iCore5, 460M GTX Nvidia and 4 gb ram with newest Nvidia driver from the Nvidia website.
