The function that eMule uses Ping packets for is to trottle traffic (this is a known feature of the program that can inadvertantly cause a ping flood as well) so that you can continue to use your computer to surf and conduct Internet communications. Running programs on Linux as root leaves you open to an known ICMP vulnerability as well (and this is discussed in the eMule how-to.) This should prevent the wineserver crash. James McKenzie
