I have been unable to get Age of Mythology Gold working under wine 1.1.6 on
Kubuntu Hardy. The splash screen loads for a few seconds and then disappears
with wine returning backtrace information. Both AoM and Titans have been
updated to their latest versions (1.10 and 1.03 respectively), and No-CD
patches installed on both executables. The output from wine's backtrace
returned at the console is attached below.

Your system is misconfigured:
NVIDIA: could not open the device file /dev/nvidiactl (Permission denied).
NVIDIA: Direct rendering failed; attempting indirect rendering.

Here /dev/nvidiactl looks like:
crw-rw---- 1 root video 195, 255 2008-10-23 07:17 /dev/nvidiactl

You have to add your user to "video" group and close current X session and
restart it.
