When menus etc are closed the underneath is not redrawn, resulting in grey sections. Running the second time also blackened the whole desktop other than the program, which slowly reveals itself as I mouse over things Log doesn't seem to have anything interesting but attached.

I don't see the rendering issues you describe in wine-1.3.0-166-g277040d. If they still persist for you, it's probably bug 1347.
No response since and I can't see the issue with the version I tested. The original download is dead.
