Summary: Internet Explorer 6 can't install saing, that newer version is installed Product: Wine Version: 0.9.60 Platform: PC URL: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/info.aspx?na=90&p=&Sr cDisplayLang=en&SrcCategoryId=&SrcFamilyId=1e1550cb- 5e5d-48f5-b02b- 20b602228de6&u=http%3a%2f%2fdownload.microsoft.com%2fdow nload%2fie6sp1%2ffinrel%2f6_sp1%2fW98NT42KMeXP%2fEN- US%2fie6setup.exe OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: petr.dlouhy@email.cz
This is working in Wine 0.9.48. Installator of IE6 says just after start, that newer version of IE is installed, and doesen't allow to follow installation. This is caused by too hi version of IE in registry (Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Version) - the version in Wine is 6.0.2900.2180 while the version of IE6SP2 is 6.0.2800.1106 (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_explorer_6#Extended for information about versions). If the version is set lower, than 6.0.2800.1106, the installator starts normally. (I hope, that no regression testing is needed as the cause is clear)

--- Comment #2 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2008-04-20 22:27:00 --- It's not really intended to run Internet Explorer in wine. It breaks a lot of wine functionality and creates a big mess. If you must run actual IE, use IEs4linux (unsupported here), if your app needs it, use wine gecko.

--- Comment #3 from Petr Dlouhý petr.dlouhy@email.cz 2008-04-21 02:45:31 --- OK, I will write new HOWTO which will use different WINEPREFIX and explaining this on Appdb. If the version is lowered just a little bit, the installation is working (so I believe, that nothing will be broken by slightly different version), but maybe it should be leaved as protection from subliminal installation.

--- Comment #4 from Petr Dlouhý petr.dlouhy@email.cz 2008-04-21 05:06:14 --- I made new howto, and also warning on the Appdb, so I think that this bug could be closed as invalid.
