Summary: assassin's creed to slow to play Product: Wine Version: 0.9.61. Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: deresh@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=12690) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=12690) wine console output while running the game
Running this game is to slow to play. I have decent graphics card and i can play this game on my win xp instalation wthouth issues.
But in wine everything works ok, but when i enter the game its too slow to do anything ( around 0.5 - 1 fps), and i need couple of minutes to exit game because game slows down UI. When i'm in the main game menu, speed is ok
i will attach errors that wine spits out.

--- Comment #1 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2008-05-04 13:46:24 --- What is your system configuration? CPU, RAM, Video, Drivers. Do you have compiz/beryl? Not major - read description of the severity.

--- Comment #2 from Krešo Kunjas deresh@gmail.com 2008-05-05 07:04:38 --- My system: AMD Athlon X2 4600+ ( 2.4Ghz) MBO nForce4 2G RAM DDR Nvidia 8800GT 510Mb vram
OS: Linux Ubuntu Hardy ( 8.04 ) with 169.12 nvidia drivers that came with distribution. Compiz fusion if turned on ( i will test it with off and report here).
as for severity: i think unplayable for any reason is major loss of functionality, but ok i will leave it as minor.

--- Comment #3 from Lei Zhang thestig@google.com 2008-05-06 12:42:38 --- Please turn off compiz and report back. Do you get good framerates in glxgears?
As for severity - major means major loss of functionality for a wide range of applications. 1 app != wide range.

--- Comment #4 from Florian mcflow-forum@gmx.net 2008-05-11 16:13:35 --- Possibly running the game with "WINEDEBUG=-all wine" could give a few fps more? And for other Applications like CoD4, people say the 100.XXX drivers by Nvidia work better than the 169.xx ones. Could this possibly be some things to try? I don't have Assassins Creed yet, but I plan my budget to get it soon.

--- Comment #5 from Andras Kovacs andras@csevego.net 2008-05-14 16:51:40 --- Confirming, it's really slow (c2q 6600, gf 8800 gts, no compiz or compositing), even with lowest graphics settings. Stefand an me discussed about, it occurs probably because graphics driver falls back to software shader processing, because we're generating too complex shaders. As you can see the game is pretty fast when you are walking with Altair (the main character) on the screen, when the game is loading.

Can this be related to bug #10631? I experienced a very similar issue with another game, too.

--- Comment #9 from Jeferson jef.albino@yahoo.com.br 2008-08-01 06:32:38 --- Hi all, I've been playing Assassin's Creed using wine 1.1.1 and all the time the graphics appear messed on the screen. I attached a image about what is happening. I tried with poor graphics configuration but I got the same problem. Somebody knows what I can do to solve it.

I'm getting the same as Jeferson/Alexander Varnin - split off into bug #15468, since it seems unrelated to general graphics slowness.

--- Comment #13 from Xavier Vachon xvachon@gmail.com 2008-12-10 10:58:55 --- Created an attachment (id=17803) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=17803) Log up to ingame action
At first the menu and game runs very slow for me when I am not using WINEDEBUG=-all. This line appears repetitively until I kill the process in the system monitor.
fixme:d3d_shader:shader_glsl_load_constantsI >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION (0x502) from glUniform4ivARB @ glsl_shader.c / 311
I then added some registry keys (OffscreenRenderingMode=fbo), VideoMemorySize=512, DirectDrawRenderer=opengl), and it provided the log above.
When using WINEDEBUG=-all the menu runs much faster, and in game I have various results. As Altair it is rather unplayable; I have provided a screenshot of the action before being recalled to the lab. In the lab as Desmond it runs at about 10-15 frames. Lying down in the Animus it runs fast enough. During the tutorial, it becomes unplayable the moment there are characters or buildings involved.

--- Comment #15 from Florian mcflow-forum@gmx.net 2009-01-02 07:58:38 --- Perfomance noticably improved from wine-1.1.10 to wine-1.1.11 With *11 the game runs pretty fine on lowest settings. Though I wouldn't say that the bug is completely fixed. It should run better than this, I think.
