Bug ID: 41925 Summary: Battlelog.co Battlefield 2 Launcher silently dies during installation Product: Wine Version: 1.9.23 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: bob.mt.wya@gmail.com Distribution: ---
Battlelog.co produce a Launcher for Battlefield 2. This is effectively the only way to play vanilla BF2 online (since the shutdown of the Gamespy Servers). The developers plan to drop support for Windows XP & Vista at a future date (currently available via a different / legacy installer).
The launcher is build on .Net 4.5 (unfortunately) and will not run on a Windows OS release prior to Windows 7.
DLL Overrides: winetricks dotnet452 ie8
Wine version set to: Windows 7
Attached log created with: export WINEDEBUG=+timestamp,+tid,+relay,+all
wine --version wine-1.9.23 (Staging)

Hi , I downloaded it from the provided link. Is the launcher the window from the screenshot I attached? If so, it suffers from the same bug as for example whatsapp desktop program

Tha`s the same file that I have. As I said, it suffers from the same bug as whatsapp desktop installer (i`ll link to it)
I found a quick way to extract the files manually:
7z x Setup.exe 7z x bf2battlelog-0.8.6-full.nupkg
You can find the executables in a directiry lib/net45 then.
Then try run the launcher

--- Comment #5 from Robert Walker bob.mt.wya@gmail.com --- @Louis,
Thanks. I just checked and manually extracting the installer does appear to work around the issue.
I've just started testing the Battelog.co launcher - from the manual extraction - in a clean 32-bit Wineprefix - with the .Net 4.5 libraries installed.
I was able to download the full BF2 game and Special forces expansion - using the Battlelog.co launcher. The launcher did crash after this - but this may have been during a post-install verification check of the installed game (or similar). I will investigate further. If I can reproduce this issue - I'll file a separate bug report for this problem...
When the launcher was re-started... The BF2 game did appear to have installed OK - the launcher appears to work without any obvious issues. I was able to use it to launch BF2 (the version I had just downloaded). Online game play and single player gameplay appear to be working fine... So that's definitely a step forwards!
Thanks Robert

--- Comment #6 from Louis Lenders xerox_xerox2000@yahoo.co.uk --- Ok, glad to here you could work around the intstaller bug.
I` ll link this bug to similar installer bug report.
This is not an exact duplicate of bug 40613, because this installer manages to eat up all up my memory and than crashes after I applied the work-around from bug 40613...
