Created an attachment (id=9128) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=9128) crash report from customizing the race
Galactic civilizations crashes randomly and in certain parts in the game.
One way that I know which will certainly crash the game is by doing the following selections from the main menu:
New game
Click next on galaxy setup
Choose custom race on "pick your civilization" screen (the rightmost one on top row)
on "customize your civilization" screen, click on "techs" tab.
try adding or removing any technology will result in a crash.

I haven't replied in a while because the bandwith from my ISP is limited (damn crippling student deals). However, crashed will be more frequent 30-40 minutes into the game. Even when loading from the autosave, the crash point might be bypassed, but a crash will follow not long after...

This crash occured before getting into the game itself. Pretty similiar to the previous ones I've submitted.

I haven't seen GalCiv2 crash with this error before, so I thought it might be of intrest... again, this is from the demo and before the game itself starts

--- Comment #14 from Adrian Lüthi adi.l@bluewin.ch 2008-06-15 07:41:42 --- I have this problem with wine 1.0rc5.
The game is prone to crasing in different locations, and it seems that the longer a game runs the more the crashes are happen.
Also all bugreports of the crashes indicate, that the game crashed in d3dx9_27.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10433
--- Comment #15 from Adrian Lüthi adi.l@bluewin.ch 2008-06-15 07:50:08 --- Also i did some more research on d3dx9_27 galciv2 is only starting with the native variant, if i am using the builtin, the game is crashing at startup with the following error:
wine: Call from 0x79faa9 to unimplemented function d3dx9_27.dll.D3DXGetImageInfoFromFileA, aborting

wine: Call from 0x79faa9 to unimplemented function d3dx9_27.dll.D3DXGetImageInfoFromFileA, aborting
I can also confirm that there is no improvement on this bug. It may be a entirely diffrent issue, but I can't startup the game anymore from a clean .wine since it crashes before reaching the main menu. Tried installing DirectX 9.0c and it gave an error about "an internal system error occured"...
Tried running civ4 to make sure it wasn't a problem with my settings and it ran without a problem.

--- Comment #17 from Sean C. McCord credit@lifelabs.net 2008-07-27 15:40:48 --- If it helps, I can confirm that the custom race selection does not happen with Wine version 0.9.41, but many later versions I have tried do have this problem.
Note that the game still has the various mentioned crashes based on how complex the game is: size of map, number of players, turns played, etc.

--- Comment #18 from Brandon Myers darthbrandon@gmail.com 2008-09-12 00:36:07 --- I've tried this on Crossover Games 7.1.0, and I don't know the exact version of Wine that uses. The game still crashes. It affects all versions of Galactic Civilizations II, not just the expansions (which seem to be the only versions attached to this bug).
I can replicate the crashes, but only if they happen right after saving. I don't know why, but it's almost like certain conditions on certain turns will result in a crash.
