--- Comment #1 from lubosz lubosz@gmail.com 2010-08-20 08:20:03 --- Installing ie6 from winetricks seems to fix the wine crash, as reported in the AppDB.

--- Comment #2 from lubosz lubosz@gmail.com 2010-08-20 11:12:35 --- People on AddDB say that the crash does not occur if the Windows version is set to XP. My Windows version was set to Windows 7.

--- Comment #3 from Phillip winehq@mrphlip.com 2010-08-21 07:23:26 --- Switching to WinXP alone didn't fix this for me, but installing ie6 as well did. I don't know whether installing ie6 but leaving the setting on Win7 would have done it alone, I didn't try.

--- Comment #4 from Phillip winehq@mrphlip.com 2010-08-21 07:29:06 --- Correction: it stops the "this program has stopped working" box from popping up, but the download still crashes. Just silently now.

--- Comment #6 from LCID Fire lcid-fire@gmx.net 2010-08-22 09:17:01 --- Same here. Wine 1.3.0 on 64 bit Linux
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24059
--- Comment #7 from Phillip winehq@mrphlip.com 2010-08-22 09:49:17 --- A workaround: download the updates manually by opening C:\Program Files\StarCraft II*.torrent in a bittorrent client and saving the files to C:\Program Files\StarCraft II\Updates\whatever (if there's a whatever.part file in there, delete it). Then when you run the game, it'll pick up the updates from there instead of trying (and failing) to download them itself.
There only seems to be one update file that it's failing for... most of them it's able to get without problems.

--- Comment #8 from Henri Verbeet hverbeet@gmail.com 2010-08-22 10:16:05 --- The GUI crashes, the actual download doesn't. If you let it run for enough time to finish the download it'll apply just fine after restarting the game.

--- Comment #11 from Jean-Noel Rivasseau elvanor2007@gmail.com 2010-09-05 08:43:20 CDT --- Yes, it works under 1.3.2 (whereas in 1.3.1 I had this exact problem).
Starcraft 2 itself won't ever start for me though... :(

I can confirm the fix. The installer worked without interruption with wine 1.3.2 and a recent gecko. This bug can change status from UNCONFIRMED to FIXED :)

--- Comment #14 from Jordan Smith jordm.s@gmail.com 2010-09-06 06:16:20 CDT --- This bug is not fixed for me. Using Wine 1.3.2 from Arch's new Multilib repository I am unable to update Starcraft 2. I get this message: "The application could not be executed for some reason. Please close all applications and try again." Everything I've read says that I need IE6 in order for the updater to work correctly, however when I try to install IE6 from winetricks I get this message: "The Windows Update: Internet Explorer and Internet Tools cannon be installed on this computer. This product does not install on 64-bit platforms.

Ok, now I feel like an idiot :P I just looked through the terminal output from starting the updater and found this: err:wincodecs:JpegDecoder_CreateInstance Failed reading JPEG because unable to find libjpeg.so.8
After I installed the lib32 version of that library, everything worked perfect!
