Summary: Distorted JPG image in Word and PowerPoint 2007 Product: Wine Version: 1.3.24 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: m.duelli@web.de
Created an attachment (id=35923) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=35923) Word Document with Distorted Image
I have a single JPG image I regularly use which gets distorted when pasting it into Word 2007 or PowerPoint 2007.
The right half of the image is drawn solid black.
Attached is an exemplary Word Document just containing the image.
The image is not distorted when opening the document in LibreOffice or on a Windows machine.
For me it is currently just this image but possibly other images are affected as well.

--- Comment #1 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2011-08-11 09:20:46 CDT --- I downloaded the document and opened it in Word 2007; the image appears just fine on my system in 1.3.26. It also appears fine in when opened in 1.3.14 (selected because I happened to have that version already built), so I don't think this is a bug that just happened to have been fixed since the reported version. (You should test that yourself to be sure.)
What graphics card/driver are you using? Have you disabled desktop effects?

I deactivated desktop effects in Kde4. (I did not restart X so far)
I have an Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) 965Q
Attached is a screenshot.

I suspected as much. The problem is probably an Intel driver bug that's been around for over a year: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28798
I believe the xf86-video-intel 2.16.0 driver that was just released has the fix in it. Try upgrading.

--- Comment #4 from Michael Duelli m.duelli@web.de 2011-08-12 08:48:27 CDT --- I just updated to Intel driver 2.16.0 (from 2.14.0), but the result is still the same.
I am now on wine 1.3.25 (as 1.3.26 messes up with PowerPoint and Word)

When you access the file menu in Word, is it correctly displayed (no black blocks)?
I just tested the sample file on my laptop, which has Intel GM965 integrated graphics and the 2.16.0 driver, and the jpg appears fine there, also. This was in Wine 1.3.24. So I've been unable to reproduce this on two different systems.

--- Comment #6 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2013-11-13 16:51:56 CST --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for 2 years. Is this still an issue in current (1.7.6 or newer) wine? If so, please attach the terminal output in 1.7.6 (see http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log).
