Summary: Spotify 0.5.44 crashes when the contact list is displayed Product: Wine Version: 1.3.24 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: mathieu.marquer@gmail.com
Fresh install of WINE 1.3.24 (deleted .wine folder) on Ubuntu 11.04 64 bits, with Spotify 0.5.44 (13 July release)
As soon as the contact list is displayed on Spotify, it crashes (see log attached).
A workaround is to disconnect any internet connection right after login, hide the contact list, then turn on the internet. But it will still crash if you try to show the contact list.

As the others rate it Gold/Platinum in AppDB, did it work for you in previous version of wine?
Do you run it directly from app's folder? i.e.:
cd "/home/mathieu/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Spotify/" wine spotify.exe
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27820
--- Comment #4 from Mathieu Marquer mathieu.marquer@gmail.com 2011-07-17 06:58:15 CDT --- It did work in previous versions of WINE/Spotify, I think this bug appeared with a Spotify's update, not a WINE's one.
Still crashes if launched directly from the app's folder.

--- Comment #9 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2011-07-17 09:00:51 CDT --- does 'winetricks ie6' or 'winetricks ie7' (they're destructive and conflict with each other, so apply them to separate copies of your .wine directory) work around the problem?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27820
--- Comment #10 from Mathieu Marquer mathieu.marquer@gmail.com 2011-07-17 09:13:03 CDT --- Nope, none of them. I only use WINE for Spotify at the moment, so I delete my .wine between each try to make sure they don't interfere with each other.

--- Comment #11 from Mathieu Marquer mathieu.marquer@gmail.com 2011-08-10 14:55:11 CDT --- After a few more testing: crash occurs when the Spotify account is associated to a Facebook account, no matter if the contact list is displayed or not.
Still occurs with WINE 1.3.26

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27820
--- Comment #14 from Adam Spiers winehq@adamspiers.org 2011-09-22 08:18:54 CDT --- The strange thing is that I do NOT have the same problem on another of my machines: Fedora 15 fresh install running wine 1.3.24 and Spotify 0.6.1.259.g9d0e869c (I found the version string under Help > About Spotify although of course that does not help in the Ubuntu case where it crashes before I can get to that menu). Is it possible that this bug has been introduced in between wine 1.3.24 and 1.3.26? Or maybe it's some subtle difference in the setup between my two Spotify installs - but the facebook integration does work fine on the Fedora install.

I couldn't get a trace using the relay switch, so I omitted it. Spotify generates ~8MB of log data and then promptly crashes before the login screen appears.
Perhaps this is another bug?

--- Comment #25 from Joseph Shraibman winebug1@jks.tupari.net 2011-12-08 09:38:23 CST --- This is still a problem in the current version of spotify (0.6.5.something, I can't tell since spotify crashes)
For reference the dll trick is mentioned here:
http://itechlog.com/easy-tips/2011/10/07/spotify-crashes-in-linux-under-wine...
but I don't see any reason to trust dll-files.com. Is there another way to get the dll? Is there another program I can install that will install the dll with it?

Since I don't run Spotify on windows I don't know if this is a wine problem or some other Spotify/Facebook problem. I did see:
