[Bug 27820] New: Spotify 0.5.44 crashes when the contact list is displayed

Fresh install of WINE 1.3.24 (deleted .wine folder) on Ubuntu 11.04 64 bits,
with Spotify 0.5.44 (13 July release)

As soon as the contact list is displayed on Spotify, it crashes (see log
attached).

A workaround is to disconnect any internet connection right after login, hide
the contact list, then turn on the internet. But it will still crash if you try
to show the contact list.

As the others rate it Gold/Platinum in AppDB, did it work for you in previous
version of wine?

Do you run it directly from app's folder? i.e.:

cd "/home/mathieu/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Spotify/"
wine spotify.exe

It did work in previous versions of WINE/Spotify, I think this bug appeared
with a Spotify's update, not a WINE's one.

Still crashes if launched directly from the app's folder.

does 'winetricks ie6' or 'winetricks ie7' (they're destructive and
conflict with each other, so apply them to separate copies of your
.wine directory) work around the problem?

Nope, none of them. I only use WINE for Spotify at the moment, so I delete my
.wine between each try to make sure they don't interfere with each other.

After a few more testing: crash occurs when the Spotify account is associated
to a Facebook account, no matter if the contact list is displayed or not.

Still occurs with WINE 1.3.26

Also confirmed with 1.3.26 on Ubuntu Natty 11.04 32-bit and some Spotify
version >= 0.6 - not sure how to find the exact version string but I recall the
installer saying it was at least 0.6.

The strange thing is that I do NOT have the same problem on another of my
machines: Fedora 15 fresh install running wine 1.3.24 and Spotify
0.6.1.259.g9d0e869c (I found the version string under Help > About Spotify
although of course that does not help in the Ubuntu case where it crashes
before I can get to that menu).  Is it possible that this bug has been
introduced in between wine 1.3.24 and 1.3.26?  Or maybe it's some subtle
difference in the setup between my two Spotify installs - but the facebook
integration does work fine on the Fedora install.

Figured this might be of interest.

I just tested this with wine-1.3.30. As per a suggestion on the Spotify forums,
I set a dll override for winhttp.dll and it stopped crashing.

It crashes inside a status callback (WINHTTP_CALLBACK_STATUS_RESOLVING_NAME).
Please attach a +winhttp,+tid,+relay,+seh trace.

I couldn't get a trace using the relay switch, so I omitted it. Spotify
generates ~8MB of log data and then promptly crashes before the login screen
appears.

Perhaps this is another bug?

This is still a problem in the current version of spotify (0.6.5.something, I
can't tell since spotify crashes)

For reference the dll trick is mentioned here:

but I don't see any reason to trust dll-files.com.  Is there another way to get
the dll?  Is there another program I can install that will install the dll with
it?

Yup, that worked.  Spotify doesn't crash now, but the facebook functionality
isn't working well.  Since I don't run Spotify on windows I don't know if this
is a wine problem or some other Spotify/Facebook problem.  I did see:
