Summary: Bioshock: some fog renders green Product: Wine Version: 1.3.4 Platform: x86-64 URL: http://www.gamershell.com/download_20697.shtml OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Keywords: download Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: austinenglish@gmail.com
Similar to bug 22504, but only at certain points. To reproduce, install the demo and run it. Swim from the plane, and go into the building. Go down to where the bathysphere is, and look around. Most of the fog here is green.
At some angles though, the fog is transparent, as it should be. See screenshot.
Not a regression. I tried wine at 4936e71828669ef084f9cf243f924a11a2cdce50, but the problem is still there.
This is with an Nvidia GT 330 / 195.36.31

You can also see it outside around the plane/building itself, depending on your angle. There, it will be either red, green, or orange, depending on your angle/viewpoint.

Yes, but only in the full version of the game, not with the demo o.0.

--- Comment #5 from mikey abc.mikey@googlemail.com 2011-05-11 16:04:40 CDT --- I'm seeing the same in wine 1.3.19 and 1.3.18 and 1.3.10. I've noticed it tends to appear/disappear when moving your head about but remain stable when continuing to face a direction. In addition to green, orange and red, I've also seen purple.
I'm using an Nvidia card. Consequently I've had to use the Red Fog fix which is supposed to be fixed in the versions I've tried, and appears quite differently to the bug described, appearing for me most noticeably consistently round the feet of big daddys. I've also noticed the same effect on the patched 1.1 version without the red fog patch.

--- Comment #8 from William J May may.11b@runbox.com 2011-08-22 03:29:36 CDT --- I also see this problem in Wine 1.3.25 with the full-patched version of the game whether or not I disable GLSL. However, in my case it's not just fog -- waterfalls and random object show texture corruption. I know my card runs hot during gameplay (48-50C) which can explain it over a period of time...but that's not the case here. The annoying thing is it isn't consistent. Sometimes it's fine other times it's not. A couple of messages I get in console while playing in virtual desktop:
(As game is loading. ?'s are various values) fixme: d3d_surface_load_texture Downloaded RGB surface 0x???????? to reload as sRGB
(A _lot_ of this during gameplay) err: d3d_draw:drawStridedFast >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION (0x502) from glDrawElementsBaseVertex @ drawprim.c/46

--- Comment #9 from Sven Arvidsson sa@whiz.se 2012-01-07 11:01:42 CST --- I have been playing a few hours of Bioshock now, using 1.3.36 and have yet to encounter the dreaded green fog, so I think this bug has been fixed.

--- Comment #10 from William J May may.11b@runbox.com 2012-01-11 01:22:19 CST --- I didn't notice the problem until I was in the Arcadia level(lots of fog/waterfalls), of course it wasn't consistently corrupted either. [I have the full DVD version]

I've been through the Arcadia level now and have yet to see the bug. I can still reproduce it easily by using an older Wine version, so I think it's fixed in 1.3.36.
I'm also using the DVD release, patched to 1.1.
