To install the app properly, I think you need to do 
  winetricks vcrun6
to get mfc42, else an ocx can't register.
The next problem is that it needs Real Player com objects.
Fortunately, installing Real Jukebox 1 (yes, version 1)
seems to satisfy this.  
( You can download Real Jukebox 1 from
http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html )

Before running, make sure Real Jukebox can play an
.mp3 file.

Also install Gecko (winetricks gecko) before starting,
as somehow the gecko autodownload is themed out of its
mind after installing those two apps.

Then try to start the app.  It puts up an error dialog "Einvalidop"
fairly early and gives up.  I'll attach a log.

Realplayer 1 isn't on that page anymore. Real Player 6 is the first that works.
Still present in git. New trace shortly.

Removing deprecated CVS/GIT version tag. Please retest in current git. If still
present, update version field to earliest known version of wine that had this

PPS3 crash log

Still valid in wine-1.1.27-126-gc92bb27

Steps to reproduce:
1- clean wine prefix
2- winetricks mfc42 gecko
3- download and install Real Player 6 from the URL Dan Kegel suggested
4- download and install PPS3
5- run it

starts up fine in wine-1.7.18-40-ga27a121 and winetricks mfc42. The program was
barely usable the first time I ran it (I was able to put in a user name), but
after that, the GUI was unresponsive to most activity. Rerunning a second time
with the same version or with wine-1.7.19-56-gee13e10 and I can't log in, as
the login window quickly resizes to just the title bar and can't be expanded
(on XFCE, at least). A couple other windows have similar issues.

No error dialog, however. The unresponsive GUI and mis-sized windows should be
separate bugs, if someone wants to file them.
